Keeping it Real: White Shirt Day 2012

Nikki ParkinsonEveryday Style 25 Comments

So, I woke up today all set and ready to pop on my white shirt for White Shirt Day 2012 but in the scramble that can be my mind sometimes, I realised about two hours later that the 19th of May is not today. As you all know, it’s tomorrow.

And that’s when you SHOULD all be wearing your white shirts. Please.

Do it for all the beautiful women who are currently fighting Ovarian Cancer. Do it for the ones who lost their fight. Do it for the daughters of these amazingly brave and courageous women.

Long-term readers of Styling You will know that this is a cause very close to our family’s heart.

Ovarian Cancer is an insidious disease because mostly women don’t know that they even have it till it’s progressed too far. That’s why awareness and fundraising is so important. That’s why I publicly back the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, whose fundraising efforts continue to work towards developing an early detection test for this cancer.

The symptoms of ovarian cancer are generally vague and may not be obvious, but the following may occur:

  • Vague abdominal pain or pressure
  • Feeling of abdominal fullness, gas, nausea, indigestion different to your normal sensations
  • Sudden abdominal swelling, weight gain or bloating
  • Persistent changes in bowel or bladder patterns
  • Low backache or cramps
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Unexplained weight loss
Yes, I know. We’ve all had those, haven’t we? Well, except for the unexplained weight loss in my case 😉

Back to today … as I was already dressed in my white shirt (even got out the iron to iron it … which I never do because Mr Styling You is way more proficient at that skill), I thought I’d do a Keeping it Real post for you that will hopefully inspire you to don your whites tomorrow.

Huge snaps to Witchery for continuing to support this cause.

I’m a huge fan of fashion brands and labels using their clout for good so I may have also snuck in another great cause: sass & bide’s Wish Upon a Star campaign: you can buy very cute star necklaces with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Australia.

Happy Friday Stylers … if you do wear a white shirt tomorrow, I’d love you to post an image of it here with a comment (did you know you can do that?), or email it to me ([email protected]) or post on my Facebook wall, Twitter or Instagram. I’d love to get a gallery together like we did here.

  1. Nikki I love the tube dress! I’m going to buy one. I wear size 12 should I buy M or L ? I am really enjoying your blog particularly the Nina Proudman ones.

  2. Love the scarf!  I have been wearing my condom dress whenever it is clean – I didn’t think I would wear it as much as I do – but I LOVE IT! Love the beige, mine is black…

    Great post… as always… ;0)

  3. loving the neon lemon lime scarf  and the thought behind the shirt 🙂 re run for tomorrow? 🙂 le xox

  4. Love the outfit. I really admire how well you layer – it is something for me to work on.  I am not a white shirt lover – primarily because I can’t find one I like but for a cause like this it is worth the effort.  Women (and their friends & family) dealing with this disease I am sure would love their only problem to be trying to find a white shirt they like.  Thank you Nikki.

  5. I love white, but i have a basic fashion rule being a size 10 with E/F cup boobs. never wear white on top..it make my chest look huuuge! What do you think?

    1. I honestly don’t think the colour makes a difference (mine are E cup by the way!) – it’s the shape of the top – you obviously need a v-neck and then if you layer a jacket or cardi over the top it should work.

  6. I will wear a white shirt tommorow and send you a pic for sure,Yes It is a horrible silent killer disease,I hope they find a cure soon.
Glad your not the only one who’s husband irons better than you,I HATE ironing and my husband doesn’t like how I do his shirts so he does it he he ,I prefer the hang on on hanger after you wash it  and it looks good so I wear it(very lazy girl I am).Better things to do than ironing.
Loving your Sass&Bide star necklace so cute and such a good cause as well, also loving your bright scarf adds a nice pop of colour, your looking stunning as always 🙂 I bought a new scarf today orange and tan ,very nice indeedy, though must go through my scarves and cull some, any good ideas on storage ?? I have them on a hanger on hubbys side of the wardrobe but think he will go skitzo soon, any ideas would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Lisa … you can see what I use here (no.9) https://www.stylingyou.com.au/2011/09/fab-friday-style-tip-how-to-organise-your-accessories/ Unfortunately I just tried the website and it’s not loading but maybe you could use something similar?

  7. Looking fabulous Nikki, I love your scarf! I’ll need to style up some sort of soccer mum white shirt ensemble for tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder, I just made a donation to the white shirt campaign, buying a new shirt is a little out of my current budget 🙂 Hopefully it’s nice weather tomorrow.

  8. I am wearing my white shirt today too, but fortunately since they’re such a wardrobe staple, I have another to wear tomorrow!
Will Instagram a white-shirt pic right now 🙂
