The Sunday Sesh: good friends, the beach and Whitney

Hello Sunday afternoon. I see you and it’s ok. It’s been a top weekend and I’m feeling a little refreshed and ready for the week ahead. Quite A LOT different from last weekend.

The weather gods have blessed my part of the world this weekend. There hasn’t been such blessings in while so was a lovely treat to be able to entertain outside. Champagne tastes so much better outside. Really. It. Does.

We turned our little courtyard into a place to chill before and after dinner with some gorgeous friends, pretended like we were contestants on My Kitchen Rules, complete with kitchen bickering and last-minute menu changes because I forgot to buy one of the essential ingredients and generally wondered why we didn’t do this more often.

We took our big floor cushions and lounge room run out to the courtyard for pre-dinner drinks and chilling after dinner

Big floor cushions and the lounge room rug changed our courtyard into a chill-out zone for pre-dinner drinks

Recovery this morning was at our local beach and it was a cracker  – the best beach day we’ve had since January.

A father and son moment …

We arrived home to news that Whitney Houston had died. It makes me sad when I hear news like this. Not because I knew or loved the person, more because they were someone whose music took you straight back to a different time. And for me, Whitney was my nightclub dance partner in the mid-to-late-80s. I was barely of clubbing age, with a teased-up fringe full of hairspray (there may or may not have been a scrunchie involved) wearing a pencil skirt, shirt and kitten heels to Rosie’s in Brisbane on a Wednesday night. Whenever this song came on, it was dance-around-your-handbag time. Nobody could stop me. Somebody probably should have.

What was your favourite Whitney song? And what has been GREAT about your weekend?

PS. This post has got a lot of people talking. I wrote it last week as I was filling out yet another form for school and felt like I had to submit a family tree to try and explain all the various names coming from the one family. Turns out I’m not alone. Lot’s of people have name stories – with each comment coming in, I was starting to feel more normal. Would love to know your name story.

PPS. I offered up my Accessorising 101 advice on Justb. yesterday if you’re looking to add a little lift to your everyday outfits.

  1. Whitney reminds me of high school discos. I Wanna Dance With Somebody was a favorite on the dance floor!
I’ve been on a stay-cation weekend – cocktails around the pool and 5 star hotel – after breakfast this meowing it was less than 10km home!!

  2. Ah….Whitney….such a sad loss, not just her death now, but her talent, years ago. I loved her voice, it was incredible. I was heading towards 30 in ’85 (passed my clubbing years) but she was definitely someone I’d dance to 🙂

I love the idea of the rug in the courtyard, mine needs an overhaul and that might be an idea I’ll adopt.

How was my weekend? Wow….MAD!!!! I held a market stall with a friend to help dispose of some vintage items from her mum’s house (mum passed away a while ago). We had some fab stuff 50s-80s home wares, clothing and accessories. The jewellery just about ran off the table, as did the Jackie O style glasses and the leather handbags.

It was a great experience; we’ve caught the sun a bit in some places that we missed with sunscreen and we’re totally knackered, but we had a fun time 🙂
