Sunday Sesh: The Help, setting goals and sh*t fashion girls say

Nikki Parkinson Life 19 Comments

Another weekend almost done and dusted. We’re going to do a late arvo swim at the beach just to round things off nicely. A summer weekend at the Coast just doesn’t seem right without a dip in the ocean.

That’s just me. Maybe it’s you too? Depending on where you live of course. Might be a bit of a hike if you live in Oodnadatta.

Anyhoo, the weekend that was has been a GOOD one. A loose, go-with-the-flow-just-how-I-like-them-weekend.

Mr Styling You stayed in the city after work on Friday night (I can’t help but think I’m on the set of Summer Bay when I say that) to have a few beers and burger with some old workmates so I used the time constructively. To have a couple of quiet sauv blancs and a mother-daughter movie night watching a movie he would only watch under protest – The Help. I know I’m late to this cinema party … ummm that would be because cinema visits are usually reserved for the latest Pixar offering and require a mortgage increase just to fund the outing … but it was everything everyone’s already said and written about it. And more.

The mother-daughter bonding continued the next day when I took her shopping for a few things.  A start on her winter wardrobe but keeping on a budget as she’s off on the school ski trip in June.

Saturday afternoon I snuck out by myself. For coffee. And brownie. In peace. Because Sarah from A Beach Cottage said so.  I love that girl’s style.

Setting goals with coffee and cake

See, I’ve had all my goals for the year swimming and swirling around in my head and a cute little Christina Re notebook (thanks Kate at Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily) ready to write them all down in but somehow it had gotten to mid-February and I’d not made the time to do the head download.

My head is a lot happier today. I think I’ve freed up the equivalent of 60MB.  And geez it felt good to make the time for myself. Selfishly good. Note to self: I should do that more often.

Now, I know I’ve contributed to the Sh*t says YouTube fun with some of my bloggie mates and there are LOTS of these out there now. They still crack me up. Yesterday, my Justb. bloggie buddy Pip Lincolne posted me a link to this one … quite timely with New York Fashion Week wrapping up last week. Love it.

Speaking of Justb., I posted this week about the 5 key autumn fashion trends I’ve got my wardrobe sights set on, I wrote a letter to Miranda Kerr and gave a big thumbs up to beauty companies which support causes locally and around the world.

Oh, and you can win a beach cruiser bike. Yes, you can. OR maybe you’d also like to try your luck right here on Styling You: you can win one of 11 Autumn Treats.

Tell me, what do you love about Sundays? What’s made this weekend special for you?

I know – was great to watch it with my daughter so she could understand the power in what those women had been able to achieve by telling their stories. I’d love to see The Vow too – you’ll probably beat me to it!

  3. Mmm, sounds like bliss!!

By the way, I’m getting multiple posts of yours published to my reader – each time you post a new one, 3 or 4 old ones get sent through too. I mean, I love reading your posts, but not that much! 😛

  4. I had a delicious nap in the afternoon, and then this evening, our place flooded and we had a blackout. Then I ate a whole tub of dolmades without any help. Now I’m onto peanut butter and chocolate cookies. So, you know.. up and down. lol

  5. Did you like The Help? I enjoyed it.
I saw Girl With A Dragon Tattoo last night at an open air cinema with some girlfriends… Mmmm Daniel Craig, good girlfriends, red wine and chocolate. And a blankie for my lap later when it got cool.
Outdoor cinema is a summer must-do in Perth!!
