Nikki Parkinson on The Circle for Big W Emerson

Sunday Sesh: Just call me Moira and Manu’s message for me

Nikki Parkinson Life 93 Comments

Happy Sunday Stylers. We’re off to a girlfriend’s house this afternoon for a Sunday roast. Very happy about that because it means no cooking tonight and fun times with a couple of champagnes thrown in for good measure.

It will also mean a chance to relax a little. See, I’ve been sitting on a little secret. Actually it’s been a BIG secret. And I’ve really been bursting to tell you about it.

For the past few weeks I’ve been flying to Sydney to work with Big W and the team behind its fabulous Emerson fashion range. I KNOW! HUGE. You know how much I love this range – and I know how much you do too.

Yes, I’ve been pinching myself. A LOT.

I’ve been recording some television advertorials for them that will start screening this Thursday on The Circle (Channel 10) and this Friday on The Morning Show (Channel 7). Which I’m excited and freaked out about seeing in equal measures.

On the set of each, the crew and the lovely presenters (Karen and Nikki you are absolute professionals and I have a whole new level of appreciation for what you do) would ask if I’d ever done anything like this before. And I hadn’t. I think they all got a bit scared at that moment 😉 and promptly told me it would all be ok. And I think it was. We’ll see this week … I am bit concerned about the side-on chooky neck shots 🙂

My husband has started calling me Moira – after all she is the queen of home shopping advertorials. His only disappointment in my foray into the world of television advertorials is that I’ve failed to return home from any of these trips with a set of StoneDine cookware.

Anyhoo, here’s a little sneak preview of what I wore for The Circle

And on that note, a huge round of applause must go to the hair and makeup artists. OMG they are geniuses. It’s seriously so much fun to let the experts take over and make you visibly camera ready even if you’re a bumbling mess inside.

——————————————————————————-

I mentioned above that my husband wanted some new cookware. He does love to jump into the kitchen on a Saturday or Sunday night. And for that I’m super grateful because I get to sit back and watch while downing testing the wine we’ll be serving with said dinner.  I only get a little concerned about what he’s going to serve up when I see that he has a glint in his eye and is up for a bit of off-recipe-book cooking.

So I asked chef Manu Feidel for his thoughts on this type of free-style/fusion kitchen action (you can ask him a question over here too). I can’t actually tell you what his advice was. Every time I listen I just keep replaying the bit where he says my name 😉

——————————————————————————-

PS. Over on Justb. this week I’ve given my tips on budget clothes shopping, how to create a simple nude eye makeup, my take on the types of people you see at airports and my big thumbs up to seeing different models on our mag covers

Boy, it feels good to finally let you know what I’ve been up to. What do you think? Should Moira be worried? What’s been happening in your world this weekend?

How totally amazing – all those conversations we have had over a glass of wine are coming true and I bet bigger than either of us would have imagined. I was just saying to my hubbie last night I hadn;t heard from you for a while and that you must be busy. BUSY TAKING OVER MOIRA!

    So proud of you!!!!!

And the other day I sat staring at the question box for Manu for so long … swear to god everything I wanted to ask him was too inappropriate. Think I’ll just ask him how to boil an egg. Just to hear him say my name. I’ll tell him my name is Edenisgorgeous

  13. I am so excited for you working with Emerson. I will agree, it is looking like a wonderful brand, greatly priced, and offering the latest fashions and funky clothes.
My one bone to pick is in the sizings. I have noticed a lot in the last few years that brands are shifting their sizing to cater for larger sizes, and so they should! I am estatic about this, but they are doing it at the cost of the smaller population. Size 6 is pretty hard to find now days, and while I can see that moving up from the smaller sizes may encourage young girls to accept that the new norm is possibly a “healthier” size range but not everyone fits that range. So maybe a look at the sizing, offering a size 6 and above, because I’m a bit tired of looking whimsily at this range knowing that it’s just not going to fit me, not even close.

Hi Miss Pink. That’s excellent feedback and I’d be stoked to pass it on. I bought my teenage daughter the size 8 jeans but they are a little loose around the waist. There is definitely a market for a size 6. x

  14. So exciting for you Nikki. Well done. I’m not sure if I’m more proud of you for the coup with Big W and the Emerson range or with getting Manu to say your name 😉
