This week on Styling You, I’m featuring some of the winning responses to my Summer Loving competition. Enjoy today’s memory of summer style. Today’s is the last in the series … regular programming begins Monday.
Growing up on the ’90s, summer style meant massive Billabong and Quiksilver t-shirts, garish boardies, hair mascara (don’t even ask!) and reef sandals. I am happy to say that I was the queen of summer style, especially when I donned my neon hair scrunchie to top it all off.

Did you wear scrunchies? I had one in every colour.

I had two or three in different shades of every colour and still have them, but since I’ve lopped off all my hair, they now decorate other things.
I remember all of those things but most especially the HAIR MASCARA! I had it in every shade… my strongest memory is that it smelled really strong and my favourite colour was blue. I am really selling it here, aren’t I?!

Oh, you’re preaching to the converted!
Scrunchies are the worst!
When I was little my older sister was a hairdresser and I used to help her make scrunchies to sell at the salon. I earns good pocket money from her but I regret all the bad hairstyles caused by my sewing.
Does it disturb you that there have been reported sightings of scrunchies in Mimco and Forever New?
I even had Mum make them to match my school uniforms!…tragic
Don’t get me started on fluro……..

Please, please start on fluoro!!!
Oh, yes, scruchies! In all sorts of colours & patterns, but no stand for them as I didn’t have enough. And yes to the hair mascara.
Have also enjoyed the Summer Style Memory series. Perhaps there’ll be a winter one?
Author
Katie, a winter one is a great idea! Thanks … will diarise now!
I wore scrunchies. Often. Until one day in the mid 90s my german shepherd swallowed one, and I discovered it on the grass in the backyard… Could. Not. Ever. Again.

Mine was too!!
when i was a kid, i had a massive scunchie (different colours of course) in each of my 2 pony tails .. and one in my fringe !This is how i knew i was destined to be a hairdresser 😛

So you could save yourself?!! LOL. So funny!
I used to love my scrunchies – did anyone else have a stand for theirs? Like a paper towel stand but it looked so cute all loaded up with scrunchies.
Author
I didn’t but you know what I use the paper towel holder for now? My bangles!
fabulous idea Nikki! I think I might just ‘borrow’ that one 🙂

Go for it!
well we didn’t have the weather back in the old country but we sure did have scrunchies!
I used to backcomb my hair like crazy, with my head upside down and then pull it into a scrunchie and then backcomb more and then spray about a whole can of hairspray on it…eeeeuuuuh
…plus there were electric blue eyelashes (I actually miss those) and hot pink lips
those were the days…
I love your summer style series Nikki.
cheers
Sarah
