I don’t know what’s come over me this season. Black has been banished to the back of my wardrobe. If it’s not colour, it’s not on.
And when I’m out shopping with clients, the same thing is happening to them. It’s like we’re all under a retail spell, looking for new and exciting ways to show our more “colourful” personalities.
Where once I would have contented myself with a red pair of shoes or an orange scarf, I’m now looking to combine whole blocks of colour. With minimal restraint being exercised.
Just yesterday I wore yellow, orange, red and turquoise. In the one outfit. Granted it was Melbourne Cup but the former beige self would have opted for a splash of colour worked back with black.
Next on my fashion radar? Coloured jeans.
Want to know how to wear coloured jeans and not look like a traffic light? I’m over at Justb. today doing a Wardrobe Rescue for a reader who’s currently planning her wedding. Come over and say hi.

Oh my god you rocked those jeans in your vlog! Red is a must!!
I recently bought a red pair I have been totally coveting a pair of those green ones from Sussan (only Hicksville doesnt have one).

And if only Sussan had online shopping!
I really want to try some coloured jeans – I *think* I could carry them off, but the test is in the change room!
Author
You could SO do it, Megan!
I went green! and I love them …. have acquired the nickname ‘frogslegs’ though, lol. Match them up with your favourite denim peices to feel like you havn’t gone too far out of your comfort zone. relax and have fun 🙂

Love it Karen!
I remember hearing once that if you wore something the first time round you shouldn’t wear it the second time round – and I wore red jeans in the 80’s – does that rule still apply?
Author
Me too Sonya! Which is why I haven’t gone there. Yet!
I would if I could find a pair of jeans that looked good on me! Or a pair of pants, they all look weird on me.
Author
I’m trying to hunt down NYDY ones for me, will let you know how I go.
Huge fan!

I bet you have a whole rainbow of coloured jeans?!
I am learning to love colour but I’ll be honest, I can’t see myself in coloured jeans. But never say never I guess!
Author
That’s what I say, Jodi. Haven’t gone there yet but this post has almost convinced me I need to!
I’m loving the colour this season almost as much as your blogs which are not only inspiring but often provide a trip down memory lane as well. This post made me think of best friend during high school in the 80s and my jealousy of her jeans drawer. It was filled with jeans of every colour while I had only two pairs and I wasn’t allowed to wear my “best pair” skating on a friday night in case i ripped them!!!
Author
Ahh, Friday night skating. I think I wore skirts 😉 And pity our legs can’t trip down memory lane back to the ’80s as well!!
I’m such a wuss when it comes to fashion and colour. I LOVE the idea of a pair of coloured jeans and have been secretly admiring a pair of hot pink ones for some time now. My biggest fear? Getting it all so very, very wrong. Heading over the justb immediately.

You need to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing – my biggest tip is to “ground” the bright with neutrals.
How about blue? I could do blue, but green might be a bit too far from black for me! I went into my local sass +. Bide store this week just to admire all the color. It’s like a kids crayon drawing in there!
Author
You can do blue! I’m trying to track down NYDJ in coloured denim too. Then I may not be so scared. And, agree re sass + bide, total crayon influence.
Yes, I would wear them in a car and I would wear them in a bar. I so love that colorful pair, I guess I’d wear them anywhere.

Annabel, I so loved your cobalt blue ones at Problogger Melbourne!
Hmmm… I’m not convinced me and my thunder thighs can pull off anything but a dark denim. But I do LOVE colour in my wardrobe so I’ll keep an open mind next time I’m shopping and just maybe those coloured jeans will make it as far as the change room.
Author
I like that you have an open mind about it. I haven’t gone there myself yet but I’m seriously contemplating it. If you’re not loving it in the change room though, don’t buy. You definitely won’t love when you get home!
I saw these the other day and they are quite fabulous! I’ve been a colour girl my whole life so it’s so great to be able to go shopping and embrace “me” so easily!
Author
You must be LOVING this season for that reason. I’m loving it because it’s jolted me out of my grey zone!
HI Nikki. I have a pair of bright cobalt blue jeans – in fact I have two pairs; one from J Brand $$$ which are really bright and I always get comments when I wear them and my other pair are not quite so startling but still go “pop” they were a birthday present from my 10 year old daughter who chose them herself from Mink Pink$. Big price difference between the two but I have to admit the cheaper ones are more comfortable! Have a good day.

Your daughter sounds like she’s learned a bit from her mum?!
Oh thankyou Nikki, how exciting. Love the fact that you are a QLD’er too 😉
Author
Exactly!
Love the look on others but can’t go there! Maybe it’s because I still have red ones in the back of my wardrobe from last time around, and you know what they say ” if you wore it the first time…” 😉
Author
Haha, Jan … that’s why I haven’t jumped right in … yet!
I love them, looking for a green pair or electric blue. Thanks Kirsty I will try Zara! Am also loving taking a break from all my greys and blacks. And tomorrow’s Oaks day outfit sees me wearing some orange, blue and silver!
Author
Oh, Martine … love the sound of your Oaks Day outfit!
Hi Nikki, go the green jeans, they look great on. Red, coral, blue, silver… So many choices at the moment, and loving the fact that colour is everywhere!
Author
I’m obsessed by the colour too! And thanks for stopping by Karla – am now following your blog!
LOVE my green jeans – bought them from Zara. I couldn’t agree more, I was a definite black basics with splashes of colour, not now.
