On Sunday night I found myself jumping up and down, waving my tuckshop arms in the air like I just didn’t care, as US singer Katy Perry belted out her hit single, Firework.
It would have been quite a sight really. A very sober, slightly hungover, 40-something woman in sea of other 30 and 40-something women, all there escorting their tween or teen daughters. All getting caught up in the colour and perkiness that is Mrs Russell Brand.
In my defence, I was there as a guest of ghd Australia’s PR reps* and DIDN’T insist on dressing up myself and my 14-year-old in matching mother-daughter blue Katy Perry costumes.
Who would dress up like that, you ask?
At least one mum and daughter I stumbled across did.
MY own daughter wouldn’t even let me photograph them, let alone consider donning a blue wig.
Now speaking of wigs … there were lots of them … and for those who didn’t go the wig option, there were ghd stylists on hand at the ghd Gingerbread House to make sure you had a good hair night.
It was all part of the ghd ambassadorship Katy’s signed.
So, back to my attempts to embarrass my daughter with my off-key, “BABY YOU’RE A FIREWORK …” and air punching.
It didn’t work.
But photographing these gems did.
Been to a concert lately? Did you dress up in fancy dress?
*My daughter and I were guests of ghd Australia and Stellar Concepts.

I spotted a girl in hot pink patent platform boots just like those at U2 in December. I volunteered to do the drinks run just so I could stand behind and photograph them with my phone.
Oh, and it was my misfortune (long story) to go to Britney Spears last year. I don’t know where everyone bought their clothes but they were almost universally two sizes too small.

Ah, at U2 I stood behind an Ed Hardy t-shirt wearing bogue. And that trend you noticed at Britney (excuse me?), it was very much in evidence at Katy Perry!
