It’s all in the detail: Salita Matthews shines for Winter 2011

I first introduced you the gorgeous Salita Matthews here.   She is one ridiculously talented young fashion designer, who I’m proud to say calls Queensland’s Sunshine Coast home for half of the year.

The other half she’s busy in Thailand working with suppliers and manufacturers on her new collections.

I was lucky to get a sneak preview of the Salita Matthews Winter 2011 collection last Friday evening during an intimate showing at gorgeous new Marcoola boutique, The Vos Boutique. [as an aside, this boutique is jaw-dropping, showcasing a mix of vintage, pre-loved designer and new pieces … more than a few guests were heard audibly gasping over black Balenciaga handbag]

1. Transient Frill Top $260; Distortion Flat Front Pants $360; Finite/Infinite Flower Necklace $360 2. Hourglass Maxi Dress $520 3. Hallucination Dress $490

This new collection – entitled Vanitas – is rich in earthy, luxe tones with a healthy splash of metallics thrown in for glitzy fun.  It’s Salita’s attention to detail – in both her designs and the embellishment on her designs that sets her garments and accesories apart.

Young fashionistas will fall in love with the shorter dresses and skirts; the *ahhem* more mature will be drawn to the maxi dress, pictured above centre, as well as the tops and accessories.

Unlike her summer 2010 collection, Salita has only created two necklaces for this collection.  And, can I just say, they’re both very worthy additions to your accessory wardrobe?  THE stand-out accessory from this collection has to be the sequinned belt.  Got an LBD?  Of course you have.  Just add this mixed metal belt and, voila, whole new outfit.

No, this is not a collection for those on a budget … it’s about decandance, elegance and pieces that will be a jewel in your wardrobe crown for many years to come.  A girl’s got to dream, hasn’t she?

Available in boutiques from mid-March. Stockists:
