I’m not someone who you’d call a girly girl. Well, not full-time, anyway. I do like clothes and jewellery and things looking pretty but I’m generally not a frou, frou shabby chic kind of chick.
But lately I’ve been a little (ok, actually, A LOT) obsessed with pink lip colour.
I blame the gorgeous Tiarah at Illamasqua Brisbane City, who transformed me into a fresher (read … younger) version of myself here. She used Illamasqua Lip Colour in Climax. It was love at first sight.
And it sent me on a quest for other pinks. The beauty of a pink (over a nude) lip colour is that it offers a little bit of a statement lip – a girlie statement, yes – but a hint of fun all the same.
I’m a bit of a lipstick/gloss floozy too. I’m happy to switch between a gloss and a lipstick. It just depends on my mood, how rushed I am and if I need the colour to last more than five minutes.
So what pinks have been on my lips lately?
1. Clarins Rouge Prodige in Miami Pink ($42) – out January 26, 2011 at Myer, David Jones, Clarins Gold Salons selected pharmacies and Adore Beauty.
This is just one of 24 shades available from Clarins’ new long-lasting colour lip range. The colour is intense but the lips are hydrated and supple. On my lips it gave a satin-like shine.
2. MAC Lipgelee in Bubble Lounge ($34) – out now at MAC counters and www.maccosmetics.com.au
This gloss is from the new Cham Pale range at MAC Cosmetics. Think bubbles and all the colour shades of champagne and you’ll find a collection that has plenty of offerings for every day and special occasions. Loved this gloss for a subtle pink shimmer. Works on its own or on top of a colour.
3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Duo in Passionate Pink ($50) – out January 30 at at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and online at www.esteelauder.com.au
I wore this one to lunch and can honestly say that four hours and lots of champers and chats later there was still pink on my lips. It’s a new shade from the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Duo range. The pink coat goes on easy with the brush applicator, let it settle a little then apply the gloss. Keep the gloss on hand for touch-ups – I don’t like a dry lip.
What’s on your lips? Have you tried a pink lip lately?

I know, it’s crazy, Norlin. I took all these photos on the same morning, same makeup. It makes a big difference to my eyes.
Ooo, I love these. I’m not really a pink girl but lately… I buying all sorts of pink things… go figure. I always love pink on the lips though. That first colour is my fav…
It’s funny, Kelly, I haven’t done a pink lip since some horror fuchsia moments in the ’80s but I’m loving a pink pout right now.

Who knows why we are drawn to certain colours at certain times – I’ve done a pink lip since some dreadful fuchsia lippies in the 1980s, so I’m loving these.
Ooh, I love that first one! I’m a total pink freak. The brighter, the better. My fave is YSL Rouge Pur #49. I actually get a lot of compliments on it when I wear it, which is surprising, because it is so over the top!
