Fabulous Friday November 5: What’s made your week?

Nikki ParkinsonBeauty, Fashion 23 Comments

Welcome to Fabulous Fridays – my weekly blog and video blog (vlog!) about the things that have made my week.   It’s all about the positive – and yes, you’ll find a little style tip as well. Let me know what you think?  And most importantly, what’s made your week.

Here’s what’s made my week

WOW.  What an incredible week?  I always knew it was going to be a good one (well I had plane tickets to Sydney AND Melbourne as well as Melbourne Cup) but I didn’t know how good.  If you’ve had a look at the video, you’ll get an idea why.  Squeal.

Yes, my little blog, was listed up there with the big players.  I was named as one of three top Australian beauty bloggers at the annual Star Beauty Journalism Awards. The awards, organised by Beauty Directory, recognise industry excellence in beauty journalism. They were held in Sydney on November 4 at a gorgeous brekky in QVB tea rooms.

Love a gift on the table - choccies and a Beauty Directory Corban & Blair Tiffany Blue leather diary

Styling You was placed in the top three in two categories:  Star Beauty Blog (for my Global Keratin Hair Straightening treatment posts) and Star Beauty Blogger of the Year, for overall blog content and community.  Do you know how exciting it was?  Here I was sitting in a room with THE top beauty writers in Australia – people who I have followed for years – and there is MY blog and my photo on the DVD presentation?  TWICE.  In the Blogger of the Year category, the winner was Beauty Heaven and the other finalist was Primped.

Both these blogs have huge followings and STAFF (Not sure Mr 5 helping me post product to guest bloggers at the Post Office counts for me!). To be up there with them is a real honour.  I’m a one-woman band, often trialling products and blogging while the rest of my family is sleeping.  That’s why I was equally excited for fellow blogger SassyBella who took out the Star Beauty Blog award for her post on the ghd vs Cloud Nine styling iron.  I was sitting next to Helen at the awards so got to check out her Tiffany Star trophy. Very nice.  And also on my table, Melbourne blogger Gaynor Alder was nominated in a category alongside glossy mag beauty eds (incredible!).

According to Beauty Directory, the winners in the beauty journalism categories were selected on tone, delivery, quality, depth of information and consistency, with number of entries soaring over last year. The judging panel for the Star Journalism awards were industry heavyweights too:

• Gary Davey, Cosmetics Buyer, David Jones

• Frank Kavanagh, Cosmetics Buyer, Myer

• Rosi Fernandez, Managing Director, La Prairie Group Australia

• Paula Joye, Editor, Life.Styled (and former Madison editor)

Geez, after all that excitement, which included meeting the creater of my fave lip balm, Kirsten Carriol from Lanolips,

Now, over to you … what’s made your week?  Did you see something really funny on Cup Day?  Spill.

PS. Oh, and don’t forget to enter my massive Christmas Beauty giveaway.  You could win one of 19 prizes valued at $1500, including a ghd Midnight Collection Deluxe gift set.

PPS.  Check out Mr Styling You’s ManLand post.  He secretly thinks he’ll be a short at the award next year.

PPPS.  I have more stories from my Sydney visit.  They star the fabulous Mrs Woog, a hairdresser called Remington, and good eyebrows.  You can read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

  4. Well Nikki your week has made our week gorgeous! So proud of you! So in awe! These Sunny Coast girls have it going on up here! Congratulations and here’s to you beautiful!
What has made our week? Well we have been working tirelessly for years on our passion and our love. We have been doing our vision boards, our visualisations and our dreams in journals… We have been putting all of our systems in place, and thankfully acquiring some pretty special people as a part of our team…
And then out of the blue certain angels appear and complete the picture. We are so eternally grateful for the gorgeous girls all coming to our first Consultant Training Programme next weekend and knowing they will be out there sparkling and inspiring others! Even beautiful girls from the Gold Coast, Melbourne,Perth and South Africa!
And to top it all off to have an exquisite couple walk into our home out of the blue this week and tell us they want to help us… Talk about breathtaking and incredibly humbling.
Wow! The mission we are on just got bigger! The choccy chicks are about to chocolafy and sparkle their team around the whole country! The whole world!
    Watch this space!! xx
