Another reason to love all things Swedish: Make Up Store

Nikki Parkinson Beauty 2 Comments

I’ve always admired all that comes out of Sweden.  Actually admired is not a strong enough word.  Fallen head over heels is a more apt description. Take IKEA, for instance.  This home store mecca combines my love for all things being organised as well as looking good.   Now, I’ve got another reason to love this Scandanavian country:  Make Up Store.

While its counters (thankfully) don’t serve Swedish meatballs, they do bring to the competitive beauty industry beautifully packaged and innovative products  – sleek black, with cut-out Ms make for a signature style that is reflected in the company’s 130 counters around the world.

There are currently eight counters or stores in Australia – six in Sydney, one in the newly refurbished Myer Melbourne City and another newbie just opened in Myer at Robina on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Make Up Store head makeup artist Maria Gabriel Ertas

I always love to get in the ear of makeup artists, and Make Up Store’s head makeup artist Maria Gabriel Ertas proved to be no exception.  Read on for her makeup must-haves and dos. (BTW … don’t you just love her flawless skin?)

What’s your favourite Make Up Store product and why? Skin Serum, as it’s not only a face primer which ensures your foundation lasts all day, but it’s also a skin treatment. While filling in open pores and creating a protective barrier, it also treats the skin with active ingredients that allows any skin type to achieve a gorgeous silky glow.

What’s the biggest mistake women make when applying makeup? Using the wrong foundation colour. It’s always worth getting a quick colour match by a professional makeup artist every time you purchase a foundation because as the weather changes, so does our skin colour and a foundation should look like your own skin. Its function should be to even out any uneven skin tone you may have.

What’s the one product no woman should be without? And why? Mascara! It can give your lashes instant volume and depth. Mascara can also instantly open the eyes and create an instant lift. Try Make Up Store Max Lashes for super plump long lashes any time of day or night.

The party season has arrived, what’s a quick party makeup look we can achieve in minutes? Run a thin line of eyeliner above your lash line, thickening it up at the outer corner. Then run glitter eyeliner directly over the top of the eyeliner for instant glam. Add a few coats of mascara to your lashes, then a subtle application of bronzer and finish with a dash of fresh lip gloss!

Make Up Store's Frozen Diamond look

Up the glitz factor

The hottest look is Make Up Store’s Frosty Summer Brights collection.  It’s about contrasted colour and a big dose of shimmer.  It’s bold, fresh – think acid iridescent turquoise in an eyedust contrasted with lilac lip colour or gloss.  And if you’re game, Swaroski crystal lashes.
