Oh, Mamma Mia! I’m dreaming of a Greek Island escape

Despite the haze of jetlag that comes from a 30-hour flight, I still vividly remember the moment I stepped off an airport transfer bus at our villa accommodation at Oia on the Greek Island of Santorini.   This memory is eight years old but it’s as clear as yesterday.  The blue of the Mediterranean contrasting with the white of the cliffside buildings, the warmth of the sun without the humidity … it is the stuff of postcards and it was there for the taking for two whole weeks.

A Greek Island holiday may not be in the plans this year but a girl can still dream, especially with the musical, Mamma Mia returning to Brisbane as part of the 10th anniversary Australia tour in celebrations of the West End production’s 1999 premiere.    

In its original Australasian run, Mamma Mia ran for 4 years, playing to more than 2.2 million people in eight cities. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago … and so the fun begins.
