Fabulous Friday August 6: What’s made your week?

Welcome to Fabulous Friday.  Every week, I share a little about my week, the good stuff (I’m not into the negative), a little retail therapy and a few fun moments.  Then it’s your turn.  What made your week?  Did you find a fashion bargain?  See a great movie?  Read an inspirational book?  Let me know by leaving a comment below.

Sacha Drake Aviva Dress $199

There are many skills you learn as a mother and one very important one is the ability to switch off whenever a small child is whinging and whining for your attention … can I just say it’s a skill that’s come in very handy during this election campaign?  {That’s still positive, isn’t it?} This week {when I haven’t been ignoring election ads} has been a fabulous mix of family fun and business rewards.  Quite frankly, I can’t believe it’s August.  The year is hurtling forward faster than I can keep my inbox vaguely empty.  And I know I’m not alone.

On Tuesday night I was surrounded by incredibly successful women at a special pre-event for the Sunshine Coast Business Woman of the Year Awards.   The 29 finalists gathered at the Hyatt Regency Coolum to hear from previous award winners and sponsors … and to bond.  I think its testament to integrity of these particular awards that you get to meet and mingle with your “competition” {I’ve used inverted commas here as really the brilliant thing about women in business is that when you put them all in a room together there is naturally a whole lot of healthy respect for what each is achieving in their life.}

The big night is on August 14 … I’m styling the MCs {Like Chocolate for Women authors Kim Morrison and Fleur Whelligan} and the network’s president, Sue Willis, with the help of Zambezee boutique  {Mooloolaba and Noosaville} … as for me, oh I’m sure I’ll find some little ol’ thing to wear.

Speaking of big nights … I’m so excited about attending Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Fashion Festival this weekend.  I’ve been attending this festival since it began 2006 and I love how it’s grown to become a noted fashion event on the national calendar.  It’s a chance for Queensland designers and retailers to shine … and shine they do.  Really looking forward to seeing the collection by Sunshine Coast designers Tulipani {bonus: Coast milliner Sandy Aslett has designed some head wear to team back with some of the gowns}; Francis Leon; Dogstar; Easton Pearson; George Wu {he went to school with my husband!} and Sacha Drake {one of her new designs is above left}.

Divina Australia Vibrate Lash $34.95

Vibrating mascara!  Yes, you read right.  VibrateLash ($34.95) is the world’s first mineral vibrating mascara.  Luckily my trial sample came with a “giggle warning”, as the first time I used it it did tickle a little.  This battery-powered organic mineral mascara vibrates at 7000 times per minute, providing full coverage of each lash from root to tip – clump-free, volume and length-enhancing in one easy move.  Included in its petrochemical, artificial oils, colours, preservatives and paraben-free formulation is organic Argan leaf extract (like Moroccanoil for your lashes!).  Phone 03 9352 5999 or www.divina.com.au for stockists.
