Fabulous Friday July 16: what’s made your week?

Nikki Parkinson Fashion 13 Comments

Welcome to Fabulous Friday.  Every week, I share a little about my week, the good stuff (I’m not into the negative), a little retail therapy and a few fun moments.  Then it’s your turn.  What made your week?  Did you find a fashion bargain?  See a great movie?  Read an inspirational book?  Let me know by leaving a comment below.

It’s been a week of just “getting back into it” after last week’s hibernation.  And that’s a good thing.  Was seriously concerned about my growing addiction to daytime TV, cups of tea and bed socks.  And that damn ab circle pro was also testing my No-Buy-July policy. I was jolted out of the hibernation last Friday evening when I “temporarily” lost by Blackberry.  My right arm.  My office away from my office.   We were out in Brisbane at my brother and sister-in-law’s local bowls club.  I tell you, every suburb needs a bowls club like this.  The kids are allowed to play football on one of the greens, you can buy about five drinks for the price of one at an uber trendy nightclub and when you fall over in the dark (completely sober!) and not realise that your phone has leapt out of your handbag on to the grassy verge, you can be assured that someone really lovely will hand it into the bar.  And it will still be there after you’ve driven half-way home and back again.  Clearly I need this pouch – but with a long chain to hang my Blackberry {life} around my neck!

Saturday was one of those very RARE days.  A Date Day.  Thanks to my father-in-law and sister-in-law, my husband (and ManLand blogger!) and I got to see Eclipse.  At Gold Class.  With a glass of wine and one of those sundaes.  Bliss. No-buy-July was seriously tested again when wandering {kids-free} afterwards through Westfield Chermside.  Don’t worry, I was very strong.  I may have had my notebook out though, taking down details of this top at Country Road that hopefully will still be available in my size on August 1.

This week’s been a particularly exciting one {well, for me} in blogger land.  I booked at ticket to Sydney for next Sunday to attend a Beauty Blogger event.  Yes, the event will be a whole lot of fun and they’re will be lots of beauty goodies to play with and I’ll have lots to report.  But do you know what I can’t control my excitement over?  Meeting some of my the gorgeous women I’ve “met” via Twitter and Facebook.  Women who have also embraced the online world.   One blogger who’s been a trail-blazer in the female blogging sphere in Australia is Sam Winter (aka Sassi Sam).  Sam’s been blogging since 2006 and her site is unashamedly girlie and first with the goss that counts.  This week that essential goss was the announcement that Spanish-based retail giant, Zara, will finally hit our shores next year.

And speaking of blogs, in case you’ve missed some of the action this week at Styling You, make sure you check out these posts:

  3. Mine would all revolve around my kids. Either the excitement and magic in my kids eyes when they attended a Cookie Workshop, rolled, shaped and covered there cookies in lollies then got to eat them. Or looking at the 3 of them hugging and repeating to each other “I Love You”. It’s the small things this week for me.

  4. Thanks Nikki, for coming into my life and sharing your passion for fashion. I also thank you for giving me this opportunity to share with you what has made my Friday! I call it “The next adventure”.

The last couple of days have see Stephen and I holding our breath as his beloved mother was fighting her battle with cancer and was transitioning to the next adventure in her journey. We saw her go through months of agonizing pain, confusion and disbelief that this could happen to such an amazing person. We have questioned and questioned the events of the last 12months but there are no answers, there are no reasons, it just IS. I am so grateful to have had Helyna in my life to to laugh and cry with. She was inspirational in the way to grasp life, through raising two amazing children and a successful business (Quest College Maroochydore). Thanks Helyna for the memories!

  5. Hi Nikki – so many ups and downs this week!! I’ve been on holidays and have managed to walk and have coffee at Beach street every day bar one…

I farewelled my big boy to London…which was sad…but he’s having a ball, so I’m trying to be happy for him…

The weather has been beautiful…I finally ordered new blinds for my bathroom and toilet….did a run to Ikea….went on a date with my husband and lay-byed a hand bag at Country Road for my birthday….

More ups than downs….but still getting over the missing child!!

And one more thing…probably best of all – just before Gabe left we had photos taken by Melissa Jean photography….John and I saw them yesterday….they are perfect (don’t know who the wrinkly old bag is in some of them…note to self: smile less heartily in photos) – but we love them….

  6. Hi Nikki, HAPPY FRIDAY! my week has been made by….. scoring an interview coming up in November with Terri Irwin – an inspiring and amazing woman who truly proves the grass is greener where you water it!

  7. Hey Nikki, glad to see you’re out of bed socks and away from daytime TV! What’s made my week? I’ve had the honour of being asked to design and illustrate the High Heels and Steel Caps branding for Bron Armstrong’s Small Business Course. She’s a dream-client, loved everything I created and we’ve already gone to print! It’s really exciting to be part of this amazing program – as I know you will be too! I’ve had a wonderful week, thank you x

  8. Happy Friday Nikki! My week has been made by my business “Katiebo” turning 1 this week! And I wanted to say a huge thank you to you for helping to make it a success 🙂 I love the fact that we are “online” friends … and the fact that living on opposite sides of Australia has made no difference to us being able to network and help each other! So cheers to gorgeous online friends and fabulous businesses!! bling bling baby xx
