I cannot walk past a Mimco store without going in. From behind the glass walls, the bags, shoes and statement jewellery just whisper to me … come on in … come in and play. And I do. Luckily, my nearest store is 40 minutes’ drive away otherwise that whispering could have me in a whole lot of retail trouble. Instead I content myself with some online browsing and scheduled special-occasion visits.
I’m thinking I need to schedule one of those visits very soon. The reason? This leading accessories chain has added sunglasses to its mix of covetable goodies. As I flicked through the collection’s lookbook, it was seriously difficult to find a pair that I wouldn’t consider wearing. And that’s the Mimco way. It’s about style, shape and a great design philosophy (creative director Cathryn Wills heads the team of 10 designers). There are 12 styles in the collection – each available in two colour ways. Many of the frames have been specially moulded from acetates and metals.
Staff from Mimco’s head office were models for the lookbook shoot, with each individual style showcased against a backdrop of iconic Melbourne locations. My faves are the Catfurther in Jet (pictured above, $179) … they remind me of the Tom Ford Anouks worn by Bella Swan when visiting her mum in Florida in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse. (Ok, so I’m a Twilight tragic … but you have to agree, they ARE very cool sunnies … and not unlike some I may have owned in the 1990s.)
