I’m playing faves in the 2010 Prix de marie claire de la Beauté awards?

So many beauty products are released each year, it’s understandable that you might find it a little difficult to decide what you should spend your hard-earned cash on.

That’s why I love competitions such as the Prix de marie claire de la Beaute awards and the InStyle Australia’s 101 Best Beauty Buys (in March edition on sale now). Someone else – experts and/or readers – help us with the editing process.

I may not have trialled all of the products nominated in the marie claire awards or featured in InStyle, but I’ve had the privelege of getting to know quite a number of them.

It’s difficult to play favourites but I’m about to.  Best of all, my two favourite products nominated in the 2010 Prix de marie claire de la Beauté awards are from opposite ends of the budget spectrum, they work their magic through natural and/or organic ingredients and they are Australian born.

1.  Lanolips. The Lanolips Ointment SPF with colour $13.95 has been nominated in the Best Makeup Product (steal) category for the marie claire awards.  Plus its 101 Lip Ointment $17.95 made InStyle’s 101 list.  I have three colours and the 101  Lip Ointment in my hand bag.  AT ALL TIMES!  Lanolips is created using ultra-pure, medical-grade lanolin, vitamin E, pure pigment and natural oils, which all adds up to glossy and hydrated lips.  I was totally loving Sunshine and Rose but since Rhubarb arrived on the scene earlier this month, they’ve had to play second and third fiddle.  This product, the brainchild of Sydney’s Kirsten Carriol, has gone gang-busters since its release last year. Rhubarb is a tribute to Kirsten’s grandmother’s rhubarb and banana puddings. “I loved the way the uncooked rhubarb has this extemely vibrant and pretty, deep pink with a sparkle and sheen on the surface.  When creating the lip ointment, we added the tiniest bit of gold sparkle to capture ths magic,” says Kirsten.  Oh, and I’m in good company.  Other fans of Lanolips include Miranda Kerr and Kristy Hinze.  Available at Priceline, Myer, David Jones and pharmacies.  www.lanolips.com Ph 02 9663 4277.

2.  Sodashi Vanilla Body Butter $90.75.  All Sodashi products are completely chemical free, made from the highest quality plant extracts and essences sourced from around the globe. Their creator, Perth-based Megan Larsen, was a pioneer in the luxury organic skincare industry and Sodashi is found throughout the world … in the most exclusive spas.  Ok, so a trip to Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa may only be on your Lotto list (it’s on mine!), but creating a luxe spa experience at home is so, so easy with these products.  And marie claire thinks so too.  The Vanilla Body Butter has been nominated in the Best Body Product (splurge) category.  This is a truly decadent body cream – you only need the smallest amount, so the contents of the 250ml signature violet glass jar (it has light filtering properties to add longevity to your product) will last you for ages. Jojoba and coconut oil has been combined with shea and mango butters to soothe, soften and protect. Grapefruit stimulates circulation, patchouli smooths out wrinkles and vanilla and ylang ylang offer a lasting sweet, fragrance.  Buy online www.sodashi.com
