Ok, so we know that belts are being tightened and only the lucky few will get diamonds this year.
Which is why I’m all for the next best thing. Flowers.
I don’t mean the buy today, die tomorrow because of the humidity varieties, I’m talking about flowers that will bring all sorts of joy for many a year to come.
Thanks to the Sex and the City movie, flowers on brooches, rings, necklaces are everywhere again.
The appeal for me is that a flower provides just the right amount of girliness without completely giving a fashion look over to frills, pearls and ruffles.
A flower can also balance out a tough look and create a point of interest like no other.
I’ve sniffed around the Sunshine Coast and found three of the best flower options around.
1. Dogstar silk kimono flowers ($25 large, $19 small) from Soul Diva Boutique, Buderim. I love the gorgeous fabric in these. Wear them together or by themselves. You will be noticed. P 07 5456 4111
2. Sophie Kyron flowers in rings ($110) and necklaces from Eve Boutique, Maroochydore. I’m loving my latest cocktail ring – a silver leather flower on a sterling silver base. Now just want all the necklaces that go with! P 07 5443 7472
3. MiMi First Blooming Blossoms ($59 for a gift pack of two). These gorgeous silk flowers are attached to silk ties, enabling them to be attached to your wrist, clothes and hair. Colours available include Ballerina (pale pink), Steel (dark grey) and Black. Playful, but feminine. www.mimifirst.com.au; Ballerina flowers available from Nikki Parkinson at Styling You ([email protected])
