I’ve been a big fan of Australian handbag and accessory label, Luisa Clare for some time now.
The label’s ability to combine quality, leather products with a touch of whimsical is a magical combination.
The fact that one half of the Luisa Clare sister team – Carla Sanzone – lives in Queensland and regularly visits the Sunshine Coast is just a bonus.
I caught up with Carla when she was special guest at the launch of Luisa Clare’s spring/summer 2008 collection at Mooloolaba boutique, La Vida.
Guests not only got to take a closer look at this season’s handbag collection, they got an up-close-and-personal look at the label’s new clothing line.
The first clothing collection from Carla and her sister Luisa, entitled The Secret Garden, is true to the label’s reputation for femininity, elegance and quality.
And Carla is extremely proud of the label’s new direction.
“The Luisa Clare label is known for its individuality, uniqueness and quality in both design and materials and we take a lot of pride in that, says Carla.
“All our pieces are individually designed and handcrafted to the highest level of finish to produce glamorous, feminine and striking works of art in their own right.
“As with our handbags and accessories, it’s really important to us that the fabrics and materials we use for each piece are totally unique to Luisa Clare.
“We design and make the fabric to suit specific garments and everything is handcrafted from the dye to the beading or appliqué, so not only is the design unmistakably Luisa Clare, but also the fabrics.”
Nikki’s favourite pieces:
I’m a sucker for anything red and white – and ditto for anything with a heart-shaped motif. So I’ve fallen head over heels for the Enchanted Heart story in the spring/summer range. But how’s a girl supposed to choose when the long dress ($349) is simply stunning, the t-shirt ($129) is super cute and the camisole ($169) just screams cool on a hot, summer day?
Nikki’s fave bag:
Don’t get me wrong, I love my black accessories but with summer around the corner I’m feeling the urge to lighten up a little. The Luisa Clare Paloma bag in champagne ($399) is just the motivation I’ll need to pack away my black tote until autumn next year. The leather is oh-so-soft and the hand-carved, timber centre piece featuring a tree design puts the bag leagues ahead of any leather bag you’ll find in a chain store for the same price.
