Do you feel that women’s fashion magazines no longer “speak” to you but you’d still like to be spoken to?
You’ve come to the right place. My name is Nikki Parkinson and I’m here to not only speak but also listen to you.
Styling You is all about giving you the tools so that you can unlock and build a personal style that gives you complete confidence in all aspects of your life.
I want you to walk out the door each day looking and feeling the best you can. It’s about really understanding your style personality (or personalities) and dressing accordingly, so that others can see the real you.
My style story
I would love to tell you that I had a strong sense of style from the moment I could choose what I wanted to wear. But no, it was far from the case. I most certainly have always been interested in all things clothes and accessories – most of my part-time wages as a student went to funding my wardrobe – but it’s only in recent years that I’ve had more hits than misses in the style department.
Umm … hello 1984 and my one and only spiral perm, complete with Madonna-esque ribbon headband, I’m looking at you.
In defence of my style story, the ’80s and ’90s had a lot to answer for – and not just that perm. But beyond any fashion trends thrust upon and happily lapped up by me, my style deficit was more about ME and my not knowing who I was or having the confidence to show that person in a way that I felt comfortable doing so.
A couple of things happened in my 40s that enabled me to find more of that confidence that I’d love for you to be also able to find, no matter what age you are now.
- I left my former career as a journalist and stumbled into this one as a blogger and author. Writing, sharing, connecting and running my own business was like finally finding the “thing” that I was meant to be doing with my life. That’s a massive confidence boost.
- The older I get, I dress more for myself, not for anyone else. I’m more confident in my outfit choices. I don’t wear something just because someone else is. I wear it because I feel fabulous in it. That’s such a liberating feeling.
How Styling You can help you
On blog I tackle style or beauty topics three-four times a week, offering up advice on trends and new products I think you may be interested in. The most popular posts are about creating capsule wardrobes or ideas for what to pack for you next holiday. The Model and Me series I started six years ago are well read too. Each Monday, I showcase a new-season outfit on a model and then on me (I’m 166cm tall and a size 14-16 – so not a model!). These posts help women to better visualise how a garment may look on them and feel more confident to buy and where it.
My book, Unlock Your Style is a great starting point for your own style journey. This book is part-story (my style story); part-workbook and it’s designed to take you from a wardrobe edit through a simple formula that will help you to always have an outfit to wear that makes you feel comfortable and confident. I also include my beauty tips. BUY HERE.
Join the SY #everydaystyle community in the closed Facebook group. This group of 5000+ women is beautifully supportive, judgement-free space where you can share your outfits and get style help from others in the group as well as the Styling You community managers, Robyna and Kirsten. I pop in there too with a weekly style challenge and live Facebook video each Monday evening at 8pm.
#everydaystyle on Instagram
I started the #everydaystyle movement on Instagram in November 2013 after a request from readers to see more of what I wore every day. By the end of the first week, other women of all ages, shapes and sizes were joining in and inspiring us with their style. There are now more than 200K shares to that hashtag. Check it out and why not join in?
Online style program
Our online style program opens twice yearly with the start of a new fashion season. Each Ultimate Capsule Wardrobe Style Challenge will show you how to get control of your everyday wardrobe in six weeks without breaking your budget. You also can opt in for style support from me for the entire season through a dedicated, closed Facebook group. You’ll find me every day in this group answering members’ specific style questions. Find out more here.
The Styling You business
This blog’s main income source is from sponsored work with brands (read my disclosure statement here), the Styling You Shop, paid speaking jobs, banner advertising, book publishing and online style program memberships. Here’s a post I wrote about the subject on Problogger.
Whenever I’m including sponsored content on my blog or social media channels, this is labelled clearly as such. The nature of the topics I write about means that I’m always featuring and recommending products to buy. I don’t feature anything that I don’t love – paid or unpaid.
