March 2015 beauty favourites

Nikki Parkinson Beauty 29 Comments

Hello, welcome to the monthly beauty post where I feature five of my favourite beauty products I’ve been trialling for the past month.

Not everything I feature will suit you but I’ll feature it here if it has suited me and has had some point of difference that I think you’d be interested in hearing about.

From the five beauty favourites featured here each month until November plus any products I feature in other beauty posts in 2015, I’ll curate my top 20 for the year and publish in December.

As always, I want to hear from you too. Sharing what you’ve discovered and why it’s been great for your skin, hair or makeup look is fantastic for others to hear about too.

Beauty favourites March 2015 | Styling You

1. Blake & Taylor Clean Sheets soy candle $19.95: Ahh, is there any better scent than fresh, clean sheets? Well yes, a candle that smells even better than your fresh, clean sheets from Paddington (Brisbane) store Blake & Taylor. It’s a sweet combination of carnation, lily and grapefruit at the top; jasmine, violet, tuberose and cyclamen mid-notes; and vanilla, rose and sandalwood as base notes.

2. NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette $105: You know my love of a good palette, don’t you? This one is just eye colours but it is home to my ideal shades for an everyday brown-toned eye, through to a dark brown smokey eye and even a navy/grey evening look. NARS colours are always intense but these are doubly so. You can use dry or wet and build layers of colour for fabulous eye statements.

3. NIVEA Cellular Anti-Age range $27.99 each: Now, I love my NIVEA Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle range so I felt like I was cheating a bit when this new range arrived but I won’t tell if you don’t. It’s amazing. The premise of the formulation behind this product is that young skin cells work more effectively so if you need a helping hand in the skin cell department (ahh, that would be me!) then the combination of ingredients in this product works to help make the cells feel younger again. It’s available in a night cream and day cream with SPF15 as well as an eye cream.

4. Real Skin Care range: Real Skin Care is a plant-based skin care range (five products) formulated with a blend of seven essential oils selected for their known benefits to the skin. Bergamot, mandarin orange, lavender, rosewood, geranium, patchouli and sandalwood all have a soothing, relieving, calming effect on the skin. My fave is the exfoliator (pictured). It’s a gentle formula that leaves skin feeling amazing. (Free from mineral oils, sulphates, parabens or artificial fragrances)

5. Red Earth Absolute Brows Brow Perfecting Kit (in brunette) $32: The 1990s brought us a lot of things in beauty product land – good and bad. One good thing was Australian makeup brand, Red Earth. If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen it around of late that’s because the original founders took it overseas. It’s back now with a new look and high quality products. You can try in store at Emporium Melbourne or Sephora Sydney. I’m particularly taken with this brow colour kit. You can blend the colours to suit and “fill” the gaps in your brow and then brush up and outwards for a perfect frame to your face.

Over to you … what beauty products have you tried this month and loved? Share the details in the comments below.

  1. Red Earth back! Yay! Their Bronzing Potion was just the very best thing to mix in with foundation or apply to apples of cheeks in summer. Whenever I wore it I got asked about it. Soooo excited and hoping they still carry this line. Almost always the products I love most are discontinued. Another of these was Elizabeth Arden’s Flawless Finish Mousse Makeup (circa 2004) in the bronzy coloured tin pump. I would love to know if anyone has found it anywhere online. Magic in a bottle.

  2. I just bought the Lacura BB cream (from Aldi!) and I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised! I normally use the Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 cream with a touch of foundation in it but was ready for a change and tried a L’oreal one (I think it’s Revitalift BB cream in the red container) and I hated the texture of it on my skin. So in desperation I bought the Aldi one and I find it quite good (and for less than $10 I was willing to take the risk!).

  3. Sorry to have nothing to offer.
I am writing down yours and everyone’s suggestions though for an update to my cleanse/moisturise routine. I love well priced products from Priceline/Woolies, they are also easy to replace during a grocery shop and mean I don’t have to deal with a sales assistant’s upselling.
    Thank you
Oh I bought the Neutrogena original formula hand cream in US last Nov, not sure if its here, all my staff are coming into my office to use it!

  4. loving the sound of the real care skin care range thanks nikki!
today I opened a new tube of nation hydrating mask and have had it on all day! mr m told me I look like I’m in my 20’s … must be working hun!;0

  6. I like the sound of the Nivea anti age range,Nivea is one of the cheaper brands I can use without breaking into a rash! I have tried the new Trilogy rose hip +antioxandent oil and I love it,I use it as a serum morning and night and my skin drinks it up. I also bought the Maybelline Master Grahpic liner and it’s good but I’m still practising

  7. I’m likely late to the party, but this month I bought a Light Switch Luminizer Palette from Napoleon Perdis. I’m mostly using it as an eyeshadow, because I’m useless at make up, but I’m loving how awake it makes me look in the morning!

  8. Christina (Hair Romance) and I were in Sephora Sydney last week when we remarked that Red Earth was back! This past month I’ve become a little obsessed with L’Oreal Million Lashes mascara (purple and gold tube). It’s become my everyday go-to mascara that gives good lash, without any hint of drag queen! x

  9. Hi Nikki, I started using MV organic skincare about a month ago. Its all plant/essential oil based, very simple and uses a combination of face oils with a single moisturiser to create a full skincare regime. The creamy cleanser is delicious as is the rose hydration mist and face oil. After searching forever for skincare that hydrates my endlessly dry skin without overloading it, I am super happy. Also, it’s Australian!
