5 bathroom beauty products to treat your skin

Queensland is currently experiencing a cold snap.

I know, I know. Everything is relative. Especially when the mornings look something like this …

Maroochydore Beach | Winter morning

The thing is it CAN get cold here overnight … down to single digits and below freezing in some parts but we can then generally warm up our toes to a glorious 20 degrees. Basically if you can find a spot out of the wind and in the sun then you’re set.

Mind you, working inside a house designed to keep cool in summer means that I’m often sitting in my ugg boots with a hot water bottle in my lap while hammering away at the keyboard. It’s the only time of year that I actually enthusiastically embrace hanging out washing in the middle of my work day. Because I can warm up.

All this temperature dipping is starting to do things to my skin I’d prefer didn’t get done.

Remember this post about changing your skincare routine for winter? I’m heeding all my own advice but with a few new bathroom beauty products thrown in for some body and face TLC.

My aim this year is to not arrive at September and fall over in shock at the state of my skin.

Down with scaliness; maintain the glow, I say.

Bathroom beauty: 5 products to help your skin through winter

1. The Body Shop Japanese Cherry Blossom Shower Gel ($20.95): Let’s just say that the novelty of having a working shower in the house has not worn off. In my head while cleansing my body, I am in a garden in Kyoto sipping on jasmine-infused green tea. In reality, I’m cleansing off the day with a soap-free product and smelling lovely and fresh.

2. Lanolips Lovely Lanolin Herbal Treatment Body Oil ($18.95): Ok, the trick to locking in moisture post shower? Only pat off the excess water from your shower and quickly slather on some hydrating goodness. A body oil such as this smells amazing and penetrates your skin for luxe moisturising even if you’re going to immediately throw on a pair of jeans and a knit.

3. Luminesce Youth Restoring Cleanser ($49.45):  Wishful thinking on my part that I’ll come out the other side of winter looking 10 years younger but this cleanser, which comes from a line of products which use stem-cell technology to slow down the appearance of ageing, is formulated to hydrate while it cleansers. You can actually feel this in the foaming gel as you apply it to your face.

4. The Jojoba Company 100% Natural Ultimate Jojoba Youth Potion ($39.95):  You already know I’m a big fan of giving your skin a boost with a serum, right? Jojoba oil has a similar molecular structure to the oils in our skin, well our skin when we were younger. What’s that mean to you? This works effectively on contact as the cocktail of antioxidants, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and Vitamins A, D and E gets absorbed immediately.

5. Foreo Luna ($249):  Mr SY wondered just what this little device was when I opened the package. Told him it was a vibrator … for my face. Which it kind of is. I’m no stranger to putting pulsating instruments on my face. Since falling for the Clarisonic Mia more than 18 months ago, it has not been enough for me to just cleanse my face. I’m addicted to combining that cleansing with a helping hand – it means that your cleanser works more effectively and your skin is refreshed daily. I can feel it. Apart from looking different from a Clarisonic, the Foreo is smaller (good for travel) and the brush heads don’t need changing after they’ve been used too much. Foreo says that the effectiveness of the cleanse is greater with its soft, silicone brush. I’d say that the result is about the same. Well, it has been on my skin and I can only go on how it feels as the SY Institute doesn’t have microscopes. The battery power and time between re-charges is definitely better. If you’re in the market for a facial cleansing system then I’d definitely suggest you look at this one too.

Tell me, do you plan to glow your way through winter? Or cover up like a celeb and embrace this crazy fashion trend?

I’ve been using the whole Luminesce Skin Care line, nite cream, Serum, Complex moisture, and Cleanser. Let me tell you this is the first time in a long time I have stuck with a product for over 6 month. It is a great product. Love how the cleanser makes my face feel and the Serum is refreshing as the moisture complex. Have any question email me at ladydilaw@yahoo.com

      Great to hear Dianne!

Body shop vanilla scrub. (I think … Not getting out of bed to check) and Vaseline intensive care aloe Vera slathered on. My skin has been sucking it up. I had been neglectful, of myself, so have been making this part of my daily routine of self care, and my skin is thanking me for it.

    A face girdle?? What the??

I know, crazy! And I love that you are taking care of yourself this way xx

Hi Nikki, the Foreo Luna sounds interesting, I looked into getting a clarisonic but chickened out as my skin is pretty sensitive. Would you recommend the Foreo over your clarisonic? How do I know which Foreo would be the best for my skin? Thanks

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

There is an ultra sensitive version of the Foreo available. I have sensitive skin and am using the next one up. So far the Foreo has not made a greater impact on my skin than the Clarisonic, so if budgets came into it, I’d say go the Clarisonic Mia with the appropriate brush head.

      • Amelia Hickman

thank-you for the reply :) will look into them both again,

  • Margy

The Foreo Luna sounds great. Where can I find one, apart from their website. I am impatient and don’t like to wait for days for the post.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Trying to find out for you Margy.

Here you go: “The LUNA is available only on our website for now, but we are in talks with retailers and should have offline presence very soon. Maybe suggest she follows us on Twitter (twitter.com/FOREO_Skincare) /Facebook (www.facebook.com/foreo.skincare) where we will be announcing updates.”

      • Margy

Thanks for your assistance Nikki, I have just ordered a luna on line. Can’t wait to start using it.

Love the Lanolips products, so will have to track down that body oil! And I make a night oil that uses jojoba as a base, with rosehip, and a couple of essential oils (my adored rose and lavendar).
Absolutely freezing down here in Canberra, so definitely slathering on the skin creams (and leave-in conditioner for the hair) before donning multiple layers.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh, that night oil sounds heavenly Erika!

  • Bec @ thebusymumma

Oh I absolutely adore The Body Shop’s Japanese Cherry Blossom Shower Gel. So much so that I bought the scent to spritz during the day when I need a pick me up. Such a beautiful smell! Will be getting some of the Lanolips Lovely Lanolin Herbal Treatment. Here is Melbourne my body goes crazy in the winter and I look so cracked and dry. Where can I find this wonderful product?

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Glad I’m not alone with the shower gel! And Lanolips is found at selected pharmacies, Priceline and David Jones. Stockists here: http://www.lanolips.com/au/stockists/

Nope Nikki I won’t be doing that celeb trend how uncomfortable would that be!
I have upped the ante as well as we have severe frosts here and the last 2 mornings I had to make myself get into the shower ,the shower isn’t the problem it is getting out! I always use body cream it is a good habit I have got into as I have very dry skin especially on my elbows and if I don’t slather them in cream or dry body oil they crack and hurt not pretty either. I like Palmers Skin Therapy lotion and next I have some spray body oil to use,I love love Clarins Eau Dynamisante body oil too.I always use a gentle body wash as well.I have been using the Cosima Purely radiant elixir as a serum and that is lovely.I haven’t got a Clarisonic but maybe should invest in one? I do a gentle exfloiatation every couple of days and a mask as well.
The winds are very drying I find and I am glad I am not the only one with a freezing house we face south so it is cool for the summer but it is so so cold in winter.

I couldn’t live without using my Clarisonic or this Foreo … my skin has got so used to it. Just me though.

      • Lisa Mckenzie

Might have to invest in one!
