Let’s Go Shopping: Lace

Editor’s note: I’m away this week. Helping me out are some of my blogging friends. Because I commission these posts and these bloggers are helping me to keep my blog running while I’m away from regular duties, I’ll also be paying them for their contributions. Today, say hello to the lovely Melinda from Shop Me Chic.

Lace is one of those iconic textures that seems to always be on trend in the Autumn Winter months.

While it is traditionally quite a delicate texture, lace doesn’t just have to be for the feminine and frilly lovers, for a more edgy look pair it with leather (which is one of the 10 trends Nikki named for Autumn) or look for a lace piece in a brighter hue to make a bold statement.

If you are new to lace or not quite sure if it is for you, ease it into your wardrobe with subtle pieces or accessories – think lace shoes or accessories or choose a piece which has a lace feature (like this Oasis Lace Sleeve Skater Dress from ASOS).

Personally I’m a “less is more” kind of girl when it comes to lace, for fear of stepping out in public resembling a doily but as always, it’s about finding what works best for you and as Nikki says “Forget the rules, write your own!” (Which is a mantra I live by daily – and ‘wear’ on my phone with my Styling You case!).

Hi Melinda, I love that you can get some lace items that aren’t OTT. Definitely not resembling a doily! I remember wearing broderie anglaise dresses when I was a kid and I definitely felt like my mum had pushed the lace envelope a bit too far! Took me a while to get back to it, but I have a couple of lace skirts from Jigsaw that I bought last year that get a lot of wear. Also a gorgeous red lace dress from Review. I’m happy to see that lace is still on trend! The red Witchery top is stunning!

Must say I’m a little partial to a little lace. So feminine. And I love being able to add it to a splash of leather this season too!

My thoughts exactly … the contrast is a big drawcard for me when incorporating this look.

I have added a lace dress to my wardrobe Melinda and it is something I thought I would never wear,I have a dress which Is a heavy type of lace, like a brocade lace like the seed dress,it is black with long sleeves and I also have a top in peach which I wear over my seed “condom” dress with only has lace in the back panel I thought it was too girly for me as I am “ahem” on the mature side but the dress is very dressy and paired with black pantent leather closed toe wedges looks very chic on.Thanks for this post Melinda I think we all like lace in varying degrees!
