Let’s go shopping: Valentine’s Day 2013 gifts

It’s less than a week until Valentine’s Day. Time to get those gift hints working over time, Stylers.

And if you’re not partnered up or are partnered with someone who doesn’t believe their love needs to be shown on one particular date on the calendar, then listen up … why not treat yourself?

You know I’m always up for that. Because we’re worth it.

And if you’re concerned that embracing all things Valentine’s borders on the super schmaltzy, then keep things tastefully sweet.

I’m a sucker for anything with a heart on it. Scrap that. Anything with a heart on it … except for a plush toy or foil balloon.

Here are 10 Valentine’s Day 2013 gifts I’d happily unwrap any day of the year.

On a final note, please avoid adding to a card any of the below sentiments that Mister Minit says its customers have requested be engraved on gifts this year. Please.

1.       “If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?”

2.       “I’ve fallen in love many times…always with you.”

3.       “You are like a dictionary; you add meaning to my life!”

4.       “I don’t have a library card, but can I check you out?”

5.       “Baby you are a 9.999999, but you’d be a 10 with me”

6.       “There are plenty of other fish in the sea but you are my only Nemo

7.       “True love stories never have endings.”

8.       “For you see, each day I love you more. Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.”

9.       “Love is a game that two can play and both win.”

10.   “Here’s to you hot stuff”

Do you love/hate Valentine’s Day? Do you embrace it? Or hide until it’s over? Anything on your wishlist?

I love your gift lists. I’d be happy with any of those pressies but it’s more likely I’ll get 2kgs of prawns and a bottle of champers. And I’ll be happy with that too.

I’d be very happy with that too!!

Love all those suggestions and would be happy to get them any time of year. Especially those shoes! And that Lush massage bar is too cute! It is our anniversary on the 16th and my birthday later in the month so it kind of gets a bit OTT. So we normally just end up doing something at home together which is really nice.

I’m obsessing a little over the shoes! And happy Birthday Month to you! Any excuse to have a whole festival, I say.

I have been with my husband for 18 years and we started out with dinner, an exchange of cards and flowers for me. Over time I was the one who said I would prefer flowers at other times (when they are more beautiful and cheaper), and neither of us like the idea of being forced into a set menu at our favourite restaurants. This year we will exchange cards and have a special dinner at home (sharing the cooking) with a bottle of something special.Usually my biggest challenge is finding a ‘husband card’ that is neither cutesy now one of given him previously!

Mind you I think that beautiful lumiere box might need to come to live at my place.Time for some well placed hints.

I’m with you on the set menu thing Johanne. Drives me crazy – and if V Day falls on a weekend then they try and do two sittings! We’re more likely to cook something really nice at home and crack open the champers.

I don’t really care,I buy my husband a card but that is all ,we really don’t go in for gifts these days we have been married nearly 28years so we have had a lot of valentines days ,do you do the gifts or just a card Nikki ?,I do think it is a bit of a money maker and would prefer to receive flowers as a surprise or for no reason. Those gifts are lovely for anytime of the year and those quotes ,very cheesy I didn’t know people would do that!

Yes, we usually do gifts, card and a nice dinner – at home if mid week. Sometimes a weekend away. Love Val Day!
