Roberto Cavalli for Target

I do love me a beer budget opportunity to live the champagne fashion lifestyle.

And discount department store, Target, has offered many such opportunities over the past few years with its Designers For Target collections.

My love affair with accessing the look of a designer this way started with Stella McCartney’s first collaboration back in 2007. Still have a silk top from that collection. Today, I’m brushing up on my Italian and unleashing the embellishment and animal-print lover within for the launch of the Roberto Cavalli for Target collection tomorrow.

Now, due to a crazy schedule this week that includes two birthday lunches and a trip to Sydney on Friday, I couldn’t sneak in an extra Sydney jaunt today for the launch tonight of the collection … and a little chat with Roberto but I have got a little sneak preview for you here. Sizing is 8-16 for clothing and 5-10 for the shoes. For a look at the full range, click on the View Lookbook section here.

Snaps to Target for shooting the designs on a size 14-16 model as well as size 8 because while, I may not be putting on the bikini below, I will be trying out some of kaftan tops. I do love me an animal print and kaftan combo. I do.

It will be in store tomorrow – and online. Which pleases me greatly as this means you don’t have to live near any of the bigger Target stores to access the collection.

See anything you like? Which designer would you like to see Target work with next? And how great is it that they photographed the range on both size 8 and size 14-16 models?

After reading your blog I decided to purchase a piece. I ordered one of the floral tops online. Hasn’t arrived yet but I will let you know
what it’s like when I get it.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh brilliant Amanda – would love to know how it goes.

  • Frankly Feisty

Is it just me? Or does no-one else have or see a problem with the glaring contrasts in the images? Also the extremely bad phtotshopping in the bikini shot of the size 14-16!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

All the images are photoshopped – and sorry what’s wrong with the contrast? I show this kind of contrast here all the time with my Model and Me posts.

      • Frankly Feisty

Sorry! So didn’t intend offense. Just commenting on the raunchy oozing sexuality shots of the skinny model as opposed to the studio shots of the 14-16 model. And glaringly obvious and bad photoshopping does drive me bats! But it is definitely a step in the right direction. X

        • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

If you look online there is equal opportunity photoshopping on the size 8 model lookbook images too x

  • http://www.thekidsareallright.com.au/ Rachel @ TheKidsAreAllRight

I wanted that animal print maxi dress so bad, and tried online from about 6am this morning – kept getting errors for a couple of hours. Went back this arvo and of course they are all sold out. They do well out of these designer collections!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh, bugger!! Maybe check later as you never know. Also some stores would not sell as many as others … that stock may end up back in the online pool.

  • Alison

I checked out Target at Carindale this morning and they had some of the range but not all (none of the black tuxedo pants I was eyeing!) There were hardly any people in fact the crowd lined up at Aldi for the cheap christmas trees was bigger!
The sizing was pretty true to Target sizing but honestly the quality was not as good as the first Stella McCartney. The white pants seemed a really nice fabric but I don’t have the confidence to wear them or the ability to keep them clean!!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

LOL – well it was Aldi and it was Christmas ;) Thanks for the heads up re sizing and yes, that first Stella range was incredible quality!

  • vphillips21

This is a brilliant briliant idea. Let’s hope more designers and shops catch on.
And the designs are simply fabulous.. bring on Summer!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I know – please let more catch on!

I noticed on the weekend when I had a look at the range that not only was the range availble in larger sizes, they actually had a 14-16 sized model. It’s an improvement, but most women are not model height, so a 14-16 on a 5’3″ woman doesn’t really look the same as a 14-16 5’10″ woman.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

No it doesn’t necessarily but it gives a better idea if you have curves of how those curves will sit.

  • Sheena

I ordered online very early this morning as I wasn’t able to get down to Target until an hour ago. Apparently Chermside sold about 7000 pieces in the first hour and are sold out however I have just been down to Target Brookside @ Mitchelton, they have quite a lot of the range left including the maxi , white pants, dresses , tops etc. They are gorgeous, and I found true to size.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Thanks for reporting back Sheena – hope you like your purchases!

Oooh, I wonder if they have those skinny pants in the Noosa store! I am somewhere in between those two sizes;)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

You’ll be able to check tomorrow Annabel – would suit you to a t x

      • http://www.successfulblogging.com/ Annabel Candy

They don’t have them at Noosa as it’s a Target Country so I ordered online. A bit nerve racking as I can’t try them on but fingers crossed and best of all they will deliver to the Noosa store free:)

        • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

          That’s good service!

  • followmarlaslife

I love seeing this outfits on women of different shapes. Great idea.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I do too! Hope it catches on.

  • http://extralargeaslife.com/ Natalie Mulford

I love that it’s shown on two different sized models. I wish all online stores would do this. Some things just sit so differently on different shapes/sizing, and seeing it on two different bodies gives you a much better idea.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I do too Natalie – even something as simple as seeing a different bust size in a top helps to visualise it on me.

  • jo

I wonder why the size 8 model is on location and the size 14-16 model is in a studio? Even if the 14-16 model was an after thought, big congrats to Target for taking the pics anyway :)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

She’s a famous model and was used as the advertising and campaign photos. Most designers also need to do a ‘lookbook’ and that’s what they’ve done by using both sized-models.

  • http://www.lipglossmumma.blogspot.com.au/ Lipgloss Mumma

    Gorgeous!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      I know … so so lovely x

  • Julie

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! SO good to see two different sized models…how I wish for the sake of my daughters that all fashion advertisers and magazine editors would follow suit! Well at least by the time they are purchasing their own mags ;) xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, Julie … at least this is a good baby step in that direction!

  • http://twitter.com/ShesSonic Sonia // She’s Sonic

Mr Cavalli has always, always had me at leopard print…! Adore that maxi, so fabulous. x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh yeh and that maxi … perfect for you x

  • http://twitter.com/alexricia Alex

Oh I do fancy that maxi dress. I foresee a trip to Target in my future…

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      Hee Heee!

  • Rebecca

Fantastic idea showing on 2 sizes of models – often things look good on the model and you assume they won’t look good on you … this gives you an idea and might mean you actually try it on!! Definitely something more shops should do – even if it were to be just available to view that way online.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, it really does mean you might be more inclined to try on. I hope it catches on!

  • http://www.fashionadjacent.com/ Omega

Love these designs, I’m gutted they haven’t at least gone to their “normal” straight sized range up to a 20..

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, Omega – it does seem limited and strange only started at size 8 too. Size 6s could do with some love here too.

  • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Love that they used a 14-16 model but not sure about the range. I’m not really a Cavalli kind of girl.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I have an unhealthy animal print and kaftan obsession ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/pagan.davies Pagan Davies

Wonderful to be able to see how these things might look on a normal (albeit absolutely gorgeous) person. So often I’m disappointed when I try on a garment that I’ve seen and liked on a model only to realise that it wasn’t the garment I was lusting after but the body inside it!! Whoops that sounds a bit wrong but I’m sure you know what I mean ;-)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I know what you mean. I truly is difficult for most of us to “visualise” what a garment would look like on us just based on a model/campaign image. This does help. I hadn’t seen the size 14 model shots but was wondering how a bigger bust would go in the maxi – then there it was, I could see it!

  • Lisa Mckenzie

Yes I have been watching those ads on tv and thinking I need something from Roberto Cavalli, especially that maxi dress it look lovely,I also bought some Stella Mccartney when it was in target as well,I had the silk top also, in a blush colour, and since I have gotten some Collette Dinigan bras as well.love an animal print and Kaftan especially in the same sentence, but the site is down ATM so I have my eye on the maxi dress, you can never have enough dresses I think and at $99 it’s a great price.I will also be shopping online as our Target store does not carry those high end items.I love how they have shown the goodies on both sized models, great idea.
Nikki do you have any idea on sizing is it big small or normal ,as I probably will only get one chance at getting my hands on the dress.
You have a crazy busy week ahead, enjoy:)my birthday is in 2 weeks I should have tuesday champagne lunch, but I don’t really want anymore birthdays lol.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

No idea on sizing Lisa as haven’t seen it. I’d go by what you’d normally buy size wise at Target.

      • Lisa Mckenzie

I looked Up Cavalli sizing and they say they are on the generous side, buy they have been made for the aussie woman ,so yes go by target sizing I think, thanks anyway Nikki.

  • Janelle@AWhiteFarm

Yay for Target!…for having it all online and the real-girl model…xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      It’s a very good move!

  • Jo

It’s great to see what the clothes look like on an average size woman. Good work!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, a brilliant moved – was surprised (pleasantly) to see.

  • Kelly

Wow!!!! I love most of those things … I suspect that maxi dress will sell like hot cakes. I love the shoes most of all I think. Can’t wait to go to Target!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I think it will too! Very easy to wear.

  • http://vicky-lifeonthehill.blogspot.com.au/ Vicky Finch

Finally, we are seeing a real representation of women. This I love!

    Loving that last dress.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I think it’s a very smart thing – so much easier to visualise when shown on different body shapes.

  • What_Sarah_Did_Next

Oh I LOVE that maxi dress! The clothes look fantastic on both size models – will definitely have to check them out x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

They do, don’t they. Great to have both as a reference.

  • Deanne

    Love target online!
    Collection looks fabulous!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

So do I – especially as not all stores get the full collection.

  • http://www.mdkaos.blogspot.com/ Mummaducka

I am loving those Kaftans and the little black flat shoes. I think I will have to revisit online tomorrow!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I love them too! And great than online.
