14 ways to love a long weekend

Long weekend. You came, we partook and you went away.

But that’s ok because up here in QLD you were very much a novelty, being our first ever public holiday in second half of the year and all.

I’m particularly stoked that you’ll be back again next October. You are just the little breather I need to get through to Christmas.

Anyhoo, you gave me a chance to continue the spring clean, put my feet up, concoct a cocktail or two and catch up with friends.

Here’s how it went down via Instagram: 14 ways to love a long weekend.

How was your weekend? (Sorry Victorians … thanks for keeping the economy ticking over yesterday.)

Love how you share these little snapshots – looks like a great long weekend. We just made one up! Turned the first weekend of school hols into a long one – spent 3 nights at a relaxing wee spot where we almost had the whole beach to ourselves – bliss. Temps over here plummeted to 7degC Mon night – thank goodness for the logburner! But the longer sunny days have me tempted to book something similar for Labour weekend in just over 2 weeks… xx

Oh what a great idea Julie – just create one. We should do this more often!

I am in Victoria and ever so thankful that there was shopping available on Monday, as we competed at the show all day tues, yesterday, and are leaving this morning. I would have liked to visit an apple store for new phone accessories and a new computer, but had to chase phone things for hubby after a drunken schmoozle with his phone being lost then found, but technically barred in the ute paddock at the Deni ute muster at 2.30am on sat night. Argh, he is in real trouble! Maybe I can con him into it this morning before we leave.

That baby is just gorgeous, I could snuggle it all day long too!

Shops still open here on a public holiday!

  • Paula

Looks just about perfect! I never knew QLD was not part of the October long weekend festivities … This long weekend marks the start of the fun season!!

That’s right Paula – this will now be our Queen’s birthday long weekend – we never had a public holiday in the second half of the year until now. Loved it!

  • Carly Findlay

My mum said she had a five day weekend – just not mentionable to someone in Victoria! I’m hanging out for a long weekend soon – maybe Melbourne Cup Day?
You looked like you had a great time – very relaxing :)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Thanks Carly – and we don’t get Cup Day as a holiday. If you ask me it should be a national holiday!

Looks like you had a lovely weekend Nikki,a little of everything in it shopping, afternoon tea, dinner a picnic, some footy and spring cleaning that’s what I call getting a lot out of 3 days.My weekend was ok Saturday was the swans game and my son had friends over ,so i just read my book and did the usual boring jobs,we were supposed to go to lunch on Sunday but I was sick so spent it in bed ,my daughter bought a puppy for her boyfriend and he is away in Darwin at the moment so he gets to stay here for now, lucky me,I get to mind him while she is at work today, yesterday was spent catching up on jobs I didn’t do on Sunday and going through my wardrobe looking for a dress to wear to my husbands uncle’s funeral who died on Sunday night after the football ,he planned it that way ,so my weekend could have been better but there is always more weekends. How cute is little Vegie Mama’s baby ,though lovely to cuddle but great to give back.I like how you did your weekend in pictures I enjoyed it Thank-You.

I wish you were too. See you NEXT week! xx

  • Katy Potaty

I was so chilly yesterday too, Nikki! What’s up with that?!
Thanks so much for all the stripe inspiration lately, I rocked my stripey maxidress as a maxiskirt thanks to your brilliant idea to throw a sheer shirt over the top!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I know – so crazy. Good for lie-ins though! I saw that on IG and loved it – great way to reinvent a maxi dress.

OMG You assembled all that IKEA in one weekend? Amazeballs :)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Mr SY did the construction bit, I came in afterwards to organise the storage. Well executed game plan!

  • Melinda @ Shop Me Chic

Love this post Nikki. So many beautiful pictures.
Veggie Baby 2 looks perfectly squishy and divine. Makes me a little clucky!

Yesterday Mr informed me there is no IKEA in Townsville… I don’t know how I’ll survive! M xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I don’t know how you will either – how does QLD survive with just one? And why do they not do online?

What a fantastic weekend!! Love the IKEA room. My girls would love something like that but I have vowed never to step foot into IKEA again until they open on the Northside of Brisbane. It can’t be too long now :)

The rumour about the Northlakes store has been around for years. They tease us. The planning that went into our visit as it’s a 2 hour trip was crazy – imagine being able to just drop in for a spot of shopping and some meatballs?
