Shopping confessions: the sneaky spring edition

Forgive me Stylers, it’s been four weeks since my last Shopping Confession.

To be kind of truthful, I’ve been sort of good. Sort of working at chipping away at that overworked credit card. As you do after an AMAZING holiday that involved a fair proportion of retail therapy.

But a girl with a job that involves browsing for nice new stuff can only last so long, can’t she?

Apart from hunting down accessories for this outfit, I’ve spent little time at the shops.

That was until the lead up to our wedding anniversary.

We like to buy each things, Mr SY and I. Always have and hope we always will.

While I was shopping for him at Country Road, I may have accidentally slipped an extra top into the bag for me. She may be stripey and a neony. And look like this.

Country Road block stripe t-shirt $59.95

Country Road block stripe t-shirt $59.95

This is a really wide cut, so I actually bought the size S. It still swings nicely but doesn’t swallow me whole.

Then it was on to Kmart. I *needed* some bits and pieces. As you do when you need to replace a couple of $2 plates. As I walked past the cushion wall, I could resist bringing two of these home. And at $10 a pop, could you blame me?

Kmart cusions $10 each

At home on the computer, I stumbled across this Queensland label, Mura. Don’t have a kitten … I may have gone out on a fashion limb and worn floral pants yesterday on the blog but I do draw the mutton line at little teeny frocks. No, this mint frock is for Miss 15. She’s going to buy a neon orange or pink necklace to go with. That’s my girl ;)

Mura Bold & Beautiful dress $65

So, that’s not too bad, is it? Just a little therapy to tie me over.

But seriously, enough about me … the rest of this post is all about YOU.

The Styling You Shopping Confessional is now open.

Tell me your shopping confessions. What have you bought lately? Did you snare a bargain or treat yourself to something nice for your spring wardrobe or around the home?

  • Carly Findlay

I bought some baby clothes by bonds for a friend’s baby shower, and I saw a little girl’s dress in target which I had to have for myself – only it was size 5, so I got it for another friend’s little girl – I want one for me! It’s got a nautical striped top, navy waistband and the skirt is white with a drawing of Parisian buildings, and red balloons! Can’t wait to give it to her!
For myself, I got a purple moonstone ring which is dark and sparkly. Love it! I also bought a floral blazer from Zara which I wore for The Age interview/shoot.
A while back I bought that Sass and Bide striped top that I love on you, and two weeks ago I bought a Tigerlily yellow floral kimono which I saw on a friend and it looked fab. I like to buy something when I’ve see it on someone else who looks great in it.

OH, I love all your pieces Carly. They all sound beautiful – and I especially love that you just had to buy that dress and find someone to receive it!!

  • http://www.jeweldivas.com.au/ Jewel Divas Style

I’ve been buying sunglasses on eBay and tops from Crossroads and Kmart.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      Brilliant spring injections!

  • Rebecca

Have a skinny foot – AA width – tried on a pair of sandals that were $260. Found them online and am getting them posted out by Nordstrom’s for $91 + $28 postage!! Prefer buying from Aussie stores – but that’s a huge price difference!!

  • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh, I think I need that one too!

  • Rebecca

My confession is about online shopping from Nordstrom’s! I have narrow feet, and saw a pair of AA fitting Munro sandals here for $260. Getting them sent over from the US for $120!! Prefer to buy from Australian shops, but at that difference, what can you do??

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

At that massive difference, I’d do the same!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mish.young1 Mish Young

Love the cushions, I wonder if they have some in red???
My last splurge was back in July when I ordered a custom made hair clip with magnolia & orchids & it finally arrived yesterday. So it felt like I went shopping!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I can’t remember Mish – there was another colourway but not sure – they’re not showing up online but other styles there. Oh, wow, that hairclip sounds amazing!

  • Sophie

    Hi Nikki,
This is my first confession (an essay at that) and first time adding any input online to any blog ever!! Since bookmarking, following twitter, Facebook “liking” and generally feeling like I’m following you like a styleyou tragic, I just can’t find myself NOT buying because of all your amazing advice!!! As a part time working mummy of 2, who never has that spare cash for those fashion needs, I have fallen in love with the ever so affordable Emerson label and have been driving myself stripe crazy with all their cute casual tops. I’ve found myself now with green, pink and orange skinny jeans from there and they are just sooooo comfy – and for just $19!! Last week I picked up some gorgeous tops for $5 each! I must say though my hubby is relieved at the new finds, which makes sneaking purchases into the wardrobe less daunting. I bought a gorgeous pair of brown leather boots at the Salvos a couple of weeks ago that were $25 – RRP had to be +$200!!
Love, love, love your blog, love your style, love your advice.
    Thank you,
    Sophie Xxx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh, Sophie … you’ve made my day. This is why I love what I do. I’m really stoked that you’ve made your first blog comment here. Say hi again soon. x

  • Al

oh I’m so jealous! I love all of your purchases. I’m going through a poor few months and can’t buy anything. So sad, I got excited about slipping in some new facial scrub into the shopping last week…Love the country road top, suits your style down to a T Nikki!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

There is nothing like slipping a sneaky beauty purchase into the shopping trolley. I do it any chance I get!

  • Lisa mckenzie

I have been kind of good too.I bought those Verali shoes from Style Tread and got them yesterday,I will Instagram a picture later, cause i’m really not sure about the neon factor they are much much brighter in real life and I don’t want to look muttony in them so I will let you be the judge on them.I bought a lovely maxi dress from Millers of all places for $5,I was just walking past, it is orange pink and black and very nice, all colour blocky and on trend.I also bought some candles for the house, some more Morracanoil.Tommorow I am getting my “sparkles” what my sweet little hairdresser calls greys done and a much needed cut and foils,I plan to try on some printed pants and get a new pair of black sandals and get some bright cushions for the lounge in the family room,so I might be back to confess again.
Love that top you got Nikki and that dress is so sweet for your daughter,it will look good with bright accesories.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I love your version of kind of good Lisa … it’s much like mine ;) And don’t worry about the neon – it will work – especially if you have neutral tones in your outfit!

      • Lisa Mckenzie

Yes it is Nikki, still buying but not too much:)

  • Kelly

Soooo … I have quite a few things to confess . A pair of casual denim shorts (from Rivers for $8!), not one but two pairs of work pants from Barkins (the fit is amazing and for the price I wasn’t going to walk out with only one pair), a black dress and a red/orange patterned top again from Barkins (I am actually pretty proud of myself for only walking out with these things – but I am sure I will be back in the very near future and be buying all the things I can’t stop thining about especially the coolest orange pants) and two pairs of togs (one for training and a pair for lounging by the pool). I am blaming it on the change of season and the fact Brisbane went from winter to summer almost overnight.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I think it is very fair to blame the seasonal change – it does happen overnight up here, doesn’t it?!

  • Janelle@AWhiteFarm

WHITE skinnies, thanks to you Nikki and your real-girl posts!! xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

          Have fun!

  • Heidi

I’ve banned myself from buying any brand new clothes until my birthday in December, so I’ve been hitting the op-shops fairly hard!! Found a great pair of white shorts and a fab green top. But mainly I’ve been picking up bits of second hand furniture (mostly chairs) to prepare for spring/summer wines “out the back”!!
Oh… and I found an amazing blue & green necklace at the markets in Cotton Tree :) )

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oh, Heidi … great idea with the chairs! And good market buying too :) )

  • http://www.facebook.com/vikki.garrettmeade Vikki Garrett-Meade

A tshirt with a Zebra wearing glasses, a tshirt with a giraffe on it, a Collette nude/blue chain handbag, a pair of neon coral – yep coral not orange – summer sandals, a black blazer with neon yellow pocket and inner lining detailing and an awesome aqua tropical singlet top from Forever New – my first ever FN clothing purchase! Hurrah!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Wow Vikki – you will definitely have a spring glow about you with those buys!!

  • shoppegirls

Love seeing what other people are purchasing. I have been doing a lot of spending lately. A bag from Mimco, on sale. A gorgeous print skirt and tops from Seed Heritage. Bought a gorgeous skirt and top for little miss 2. Love a new season. Have to now find something for my girls. Oh let’s not forget my over spending at Peter Alexander. Love his pyjamas. Vicki x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Love Peter Alexander pjs … that’s just planted a seed for me!

  • http://vicky-lifeonthehill.blogspot.com.au/ Vicky Finch

It’s not very often that I see something while out and about and just must have it. I’ve said it before I delay the gratification, and if it is still there, reduced in price then it was supposed to be mine. Except on the day I caught up with a girlfriend for lunch. Walked past a shop at Noosa civic, and saw the most divine orange crochet top. Walked in, looked at the price, walked out. Thought about all day, mentioned it to M, who promptly turn around gave me the money for it and said go and get it. (The fact that he had just purchased a new 55inch screen tv may, or may not, have had something to do with it!) So I now own said tunic top. And are hanging to wear it!! Have just been too busy packing cleaning unpacking to go anywhere.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

LOL – love this – work the partner’s shopping guilt and you score a new top. Great work Vicky x

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=598487920 Jane Frosh

Oh Nikki,.. where to start. Ok,..Denim shirt, massive aztec scarf and boyfriend jeans from Zara. Tie died skinny jeans and T shirt for 8yr old daughter. Divine sequinned skirt from Sussan (sold out), grey t-shirt to go with sequinned skirt (all for a hotel opening,.and never wore any of them). Gold mesh vintage tank top to wear to hotel opening (lol). Amazing boned underwear to go under gold mesh vintage top. (remind me to tell you about that brand later on) Incredible Gorman harlequin pants, a brass front door knocker in the form of a deer’s head, and a massive feathered, beaded, shelled african ‘neck piece’. as you do. oops. XX

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Oops … do you feel better for confessing ;) And re the Converse shoes, did you forget to buy in the US? My daughter’s aqua ones cost $25! And coral vans for $45!! x

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=598487920 Jane Frosh

Much, much better! the problem is that there is SO MUCH cool stuff around! lol. No,.I bought the Converse in Sydney. $65 a pair. yeouch.

        • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

          Yeouch!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1069794835 Louise Di Trapani

WOW would it be wrong for a 40 year old woman to buy that same dress as Miss 15?
As for my confessional I purchased a new cobalt blue handbag but I have good reason why I needed it – my zipper on my cream handbag keeps breaking but not sure what I can say about the yellow handbag I purchased too, lol.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

This 40-year-plus woman yes Louise … it’s super short! And LOL re the handbags … can never have too many?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1069794835 Louise Di Trapani

Well I’m only 5″ so it might be knee length on me, lol. I’d like to know Nikki what your thoughts are on the ‘peplum’ trend for older women? I made a peplum jacket back in Home Ec in the 80′s and I still love them but do I dare buy and what should I look for when purchasing? I nearly bought one last week in yellow (oh so pretty)

        • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I think yes re the peplum trend – it’s a classic shape. It’s not really for me because my hips are the widest thing and I have a short waist (I know a lot of so-called fashion experts are saying that anyone can wear it though!). I could probably do a top and then with skinny jeans so it was balanced out. But go for it!!

  • Noosa Beach House

My confession is that after promising myself that I would NOT buy any more shoes, I spotted some new, current style Elie Tahari flats on EBay for under $30 + postage – eek! $200 shoes for less than $30, yes please! It would have been criminal not to buy them! But that’s it now, I am not buying any more shoes lol (well, until next time!)

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      Criminal, YES!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=598487920 Jane Frosh
