What do you sell in your store?
Skincare, haircare and beauty products from leading cosmetic brands including Clarins, Napoleon Perdis and Dermalogica, fragrance and candles from Chloe, Chanel and Ecoya, electrical products including GHD hair straighteners and Parlux hair dryers, men’s grooming products and online gift cards.
How did the idea for your store come about?
After seeing the rise of online stores in the UK and USA, I felt it was a natural next step for a hair and beauty salon to go online. I approached Brad with the concept of an online store, as he had such a strong background in IT, and the rest is history.
What is your career background?
My business partner Brad and I come from two totally different backgrounds but we are perfectly synced for an online beauty business. I had previously owned a hair and beauty salon on the Gold Coast where my work was primarily business management, whereas Brad had studied and worked within the IT industry.
Who is your key customer?
Our customers are savvy shoppers who are interested in quality beauty products, they enjoy the hassle-free shopping we offer and the simplicity of next day delivery. RY’s biggest market is women between 18 – 35, however we have noticed an increase in our male customer base(25 – 40) shopping within our grooming range.
How do you make it easy for your online customers to buy from you?
Our site is structured so that customers can shop in a multitude of different ways, including by brand or by category e.g. makeup, skincare, hair care or grooming.
Within each category we offer a few layers of detailed subcategories, which become quite specific, such as lipsticks, lip glosses or lip stains. This allows shoppers to browse everything we have available that might be of interest to them. We offer a strong description and image of each product, and if the customer is still unsure after browsing or wants to ask a question, we offer an online chat service where they can ask about products and we are also available over the phone. Our site also includes a search option if they are interested in a specific product.
Do you sell in person or in a physical store as well?
Our customers who are based on the Gold Coast, Queensland are able to visit us at our Burleigh Heads store at 1/10 Kortum Drive, where we have our full range of products available. Otherwise we are available over the phone on 1300 599 773 to assist customers with sales and any purchasing decisions.
