5 for Friday: fashion stuff I found in my inbox

One of the big jobs I’ve tackled this week has been the email inbox and the volume of post that arrived while I was away.

So much to catch up on.

I thought I’d share here today five bits of the newsy fashion stuff that I discovered … stuff that made me smile.

Fashion stuff I'm loving right now

1. Witchery now stocks up to size 16. Halle-frickin-lujah. About time. Bring it on. All of the above. It always seemed strange to me that Witchery didn’t. This will now open up so many more of the styles – particularly pants and skirts – to my buying pleasure.

2. Sussan has introduced the Lift and Shape jean. Try it on for an instant butt lift and tummy flatten. Love.

3. Seed has a summer version of the “condom” dress and I have my sights set on the neon yellow version. At $39.95 it will sit very nicely in my summer wardrobe. Thank-you very much. (Check this post for more than 30 different ways to wear the maxi version of this dress). Still at Seed … from October if you’ve got a girl aged 8-14 then you’ll have another fashion shopping option for your Tween, thanks to the Seed Teen Collection.

Designers for Target: Robert Cavalli

4. Target has a new Designers for Target collection launching October 31 … Robert Cavalli. It’s been a while since the last big launch but I’ve been a fan of these designer collaborations since Stella McCartney for Target launched five and half years ago. Yes, you’ll pay a little more than regular Target apparel prices but you’ll get a designer taste our beer budgets would not otherwise afford us.

5. The very dishy former partner of Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, Paul Sculfor, is the face of Trenery Man this season. I’ll refrain from further comment ;)

It’s over to you now … what have I missed out there in fashion retail land? What store has really caught your eye for spring? Have you been surprised by a fashion store you previously wouldn’t have shopped at?

PS. You know how we started talking the other day about paying bucket loads more for cosmetics in Australia? And I mentioned about Illamasqua’s campaign for fair prices here – prices comparable to what they sell for in the UK? Well, there’s been a win. Illamasqua prices will be reduced across the range at Myer – and online – from September 1. You’ll pay between 35-42% less than previously and these prices are on par with the UK. Let’s hope other brands have the capacity and the willingness to follow suit. I’m going to be buying up big on my favourite long-lasting foundation.

Yesterday I picked up the kids from After School Care and the co-ordinator Sharon came running across the playground to show me her Seed Condom Dress! She looked amazing in it. I managed to find a black L in the summer style this week. May have been the last one! They will restock it soon xx

Ahhh, I need to get myself one … or six!

  • Natasha

Sorry Nikki, but do you wear the condom Dress by itself or is it for layering? I am a bumpy 12-14 and I can jut see that dress showing every lumpy bump?

Loooove Roberto Cavalli…which may or may not have anything to do with my leopard print obsession…!
My Birthday Dress arrived today from Esther Boutique (www.esther.com.au) which I am more than a little excited about. It’s black, fitted and peplum. You can bet you’ll be seeing 159 photos on Instagram in 2 weeks time! xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Nothing wrong with a leopard print obsession, Sonia. And good on you for treating yourself for your birthday!!

Wearing my orange condom dress from Seed today – its great holds everything in. Also have the lift and shape jeans from Sussan in blue demin, love them it lifts up the butt and shapes the thighs and even through the are tight they are super comfortable. I have the white on lay by they will be perfect for summer!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      You’re on it Karen! Impressed!

  • Kelly

Way to go Seed! I was hoping they would bring out a new version of that dress. I’ll look forward to hunting one down soon.
I have to say I have been visiting my local Witchery stores quite a bit lately. I have bought a few tops from them recently and I have lived in a Witchery cardigan and scarf the past couple of months. The staff I’ve encountered have all been lovely too, what a difference that makes!!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Good service makes such a difference Kelly. My nearest store is 40 minutes away in Noosa (they have an excellent manager there!) so I tend to find it’s the airport stores that get my regular business.

  • Rebecca

SEED TEEN!!!!!! That’s brilliant – can’t wait to take my quite tall 12yr old girl – not massive options around unless we want her to look much older than her actual age!!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, such a tricky age – in store October!

  • http://www.edenriley.com/ edenland

ROBERT CAVALLI AT TARGET!!! Wow. That is seriously amazing!

(I may yet crack open my condom dress to Problogger …)

    xx

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Bring it and I’ll style you, Ms Eden. You’ll need your red boots and denim jacket. PS. Were your ears burning today? I quoted and referenced you in my talk to online journalism students x

    Hi Nikki,
have literally just walked in the door after a trip to Seed to buy a condom dress! Picked a similar one up at Glassons y’day, but when I got home and tried it on in real light I discovered it was a little too thin [could see the pattern on my undies!]. So that will be going back quick smart! last night I did a bit of research on your previous posts for the Seed dress, and decided that I would make a special trip today to the nearest store to see what size I would need. Spent wayyyy too long trying half the store on, and eventually went with the black summer version [fitted tank dress], as I think it will be a great spring/autumn staple. Much better quality than Glassons, [and cheaper] and seems to suck me in where I need it without having too obvious underwear lines. Thanks for the recommendation!! I very nearly almost bought the sparkly grey tube $79.95 – not sure what it was called, but would be great for day or evening. It was a little longer than the tank dress, but not as long as the tube maxi dress, but I just couldn’t find the perfect top to go over it, so I played it safe and went with the black fitted tank dress at $39.95.
Really love your tips and recommendations – thanks Nikki!

Peta, I love that you had a try of the Seed one and black is a great first choice. You’ll probably find you want to wear it every day – then you’ll be back for more! The thickness of the material really does make a difference. Really glad you had success!

  • Jodie

The power of the blog, huh? I had stopped bothering with Witchery because size 14 didn’t cut it for me after I hit a few milestones (40…..second child…..red wine) and I’d have never bothered with them if I hadn’t seen your post. Thanks for keeping it real, Nikki.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Got to love that red wine milestone Jodie ;) Happy shopping!

  • Lisa mckenzie

I like a bit of yellow ,but not a whole dress full. That colour does not sit well on my skin tone, but I love orange. I bought a yellow nail polish and a bright blue one in Target yesterday ,I had too didn’t I ?,they were $1each and one’s Rimmel and one is Australis they were on the markdown table on the way to get my dad a book for fathers day,a bit of fun colour for summer.I love Sussan’s always have and I’m glad they have bought out the lift and shape jean,I am a fan of the Katies one’s.Will have to check the Sussan’s ones out.I remember the launch of the Stella McCartney range at target I bought a top,so love anything that is designer on a more affordable budget. The only shop that has surprised me is Rockman’s as I mentioned the other day, their skinny pants are lovely on and suit a mummy tummy very well,The colours are good too!
Very Glad to hear about the Illamasqua win that is wonderful!!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

I was hoping you’d mention Rockman’s here again, Lisa. Always good to re-visit stores that might not have worked last time we looked!

  • Debbie Ladd

Nik, I was walking down oxford street in Sydney last weekend, when the window display at SEDUCE caught my eye, I have not brought anything in seduce for years as the clothes were aimed at the size 6 leave nothing to the imagination type!! Well things have changed, new designers, a full size range, and when they didn’t have the size of a shirt I liked, the staff rang around and found one close to my hotel in the city…….needless to say I went to the city store, shopped up a storm, sales staff were so helpful and the clothes classy and reasonably priced. So if you haven’t been in SEDUCE for a while, check it out, I did and was more than surprised. Best service I’ve had in years……Deb x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Awesome to hear Deb … I will check them out. They also make the Katherine label.

  • Nashuagirl

‘Dishy’… haven’t heard that word for a long time but so apt with Mr Paul! Hope to see something ‘dishy’ this weekend ;)

    • Nashuagirl

PS Loving the Robert Cavalli too. If only I was in my 20s again and had the figure.

      • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Will wait to see whole collection – there maybe something to suit non-20s!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

      HeeHee yes!

  • Dianne

Loving the pull up jeans range at Katies this season. They are in about 4 different lengths from shorts to jeans, different leg fits for the jeans and so many different colours. Being stretch they somehow prevent a muffin top, need I say more…Thinking I might end up owning a few of these:-) Glad you got to the bottom of the inbox, great feeling that one!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Excellent Dianne … and yes the stretch band would mean it would sit better without cutting in and creating a muffin top.

Brilliant, I will be coming back here this afternoon and having a good squizzzz. I sure like the looks of those shorter condom dresses! Thank goodness these brands are expanding their lines to larger and tweens- finding clothes for those tweens is so hard, I’m sure they’ll keep them appropriate and not too revealing for the babes!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Tweens is hard and yes, I think Seed could do this very well. In a way grateful that my daughter is now in “adult” sizes as more to choose from.

      • http://www.mdkaos.blogspot.com/ Mummaducka

My 12 yo daughter is in adults too but they can be a bit big under the arms – the holes or neck and long in the legs. I guess just the proportions can be all weird.

Told you you need a virtual assistant ;)

Hope things are settling Nikki, and that the decks are cleared so to speak. X

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yes, has been a busy week out of the office … next week should be somewhere near normal!

  • Georgina

I just moved home after nearly a decade in London. So glad I stocked up on DermaLogica, MAC and Lancome favourites… Priced ate absurd here and are not reflective of the exchange rate. Thanks for your part in campaigning for fairer pricing – the women of Australia thank you!

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

No problems Georgina … was a small part and hopefully Illamasqua’s lead can be followed by others!

  • http://www.redcliffestyle.com/ Rachel from Redcliffe Style

The Sussan jeans sound great. I think I’ll also have to check out the other colours of the condom dress. I love the bright yellow but it won’t suit me at all. Rachel x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki | Styling You

Yellow is fast taking over my love of orange … I guess it’s all in the citrus family, sort of!
