If my hair could have signed autographs over the last week, it would have been very busy indeed.
This is not me big-noting my hair. Well, it is. But not in the sense of my hair’s self importance.
More in the sense that my hair (and me by association) has recently been on the receiving end of some potentially hair-changing salon attention.
Before I take you on my latest hair journey, let me back track a little with a little of my hair history. Specifically my bouffy hair history.
I have thick hair. Thick hair with a recalcitrant wave at the back.
Pre-straightening irons (which my young readers, I need to tell you was only 10 years ago), there was little I could do to counteract the bouffiness.
Enter the iron era and I was one very excited hair owner. Finally there was something to tame the mane.
Since that time, I’ve flaunted with chemical hair straightening, keratin straightening and the Brazilian blowout. Yep, if I so much as got a whiff of a new way to issue a “take that” to my frizzy mop, then I’d be there, caped up and first in line.
So when I walked into my wonderful salon last week for a pre-Sydney blow dry and there in front of me was the L’Oreal Professionnel Steam Pod … well, let’s just say, I may have come over all giddy.
I’d heard about the steam pod system from my hair stylist and via the Instagram feed at last month’s Hair Expo. I knew my hair and the pod could be friends but what I actually found was that friends really can be lovers.
In a nutshell, the steam pod offers both a treatment and style in one. It leaves your hair frizz and humidity proof until its next wash. Best of all, the way this is achieved is actually quicker than a blow dry and iron.
So how does it work?
Wouldn’t steam create frizz, not prevent it? I know. Sounds crazy, right?
1. A pro-keratin cream or serum – or both – is added to your hair before being dried off to 80%
2. The irons (which are larger and heavier than regular irons) work like a clothing iron steam station system.
3. The temperature settings can be adjusted to suit the sensitivity of the hair and the desired style.
4. As the irons are worked through sections of hair, the anodised ceramic floating plates deliver a continuous flow of high-pressured steam, allowing the pro-keratin to penetrate the hair cuticle.
5. Hair can be styled with volume and bounce. Or super straight. Either way, hair remains frizz-free until the next wash.
I can vouch for all of the above because, as luck would have it, my hair experienced the steam pod twice in one week. Yes, the hair gods, they were indeed shining down on me.
When Mrs Woog booked me into her stylist for a blow dry and I walked in and saw the steam pod on the bench, it was a no brainer, I was sending my hair back for more. Not surprisingly Mrs Woog lined her hair up for the pod treatment too.
The next day at Blogopolis, my hair almost got more Tweets and Instagram uploads than the TomKat split
Kidding!
But really it should have … because quite frankly, I’ve become a little evangelistic about the Steam Pod want all bouffy hair owners to know about it. It may just change their hair life. See below for four days in the life of my Steam Podded hair. All I did each day was brush it. True.
The Cost
Some salons are not charging extra; others $10-$20 on top of a normal blow dry. Why the extra charge? It’s a treatment, not just a style.
Where
