Keeping it Real: the anti-mooch outfit

Yesterday’s public holiday was in danger of morphing into another mooch day but after a health-giving sleep in and a bit of iPad reading, I had a stern talking to myself.

Self, I said. Much as you very much must have been descended from a bear or some other hibernating creature and as much as you believe mooching should be an Olympic sport, today you need to do more than watch 16 gazillion episodes of Pan Am.

So, with that I negotiated an anti-mooch agreement. I would get up from my prone position and do something constructive (make cauliflower and leek soup PLUS a flourless orange cake) but I would do so in my pyjamas and Emu boots.

And then we got a text from friends who live down the street and around the corner suggesting an afternoon drinkie.

Ummm … don’t mind if we do. The text was enough to force me to shake off the pyjamas, which, let’s face it, by now could have grown legs and walked to the laundry basket on their own.

It was threatening rain as it had been all weekend but we decided to risk it and walk the 1.5km or so, Mr SY with the esky slung over his shoulders.

I took my outfit one level up from pjs and opted for my well-loved Converse sneakers as footwear and a splash of orange from Bella Lido* to brighten up a doomy gloomy afternoon.

How was your Queen’s Birthday Monday (if you had a holiday yesterday)? Was it a PJ day or did you manage to pull together an anti-mooch outfit?

Can you buy the NYDJ leggings on the net? The US site have a great range. I am particularly interested in the pull on ones with the FAUX zipper. HAHAHA

Sounds exactly like my weekend Nikki. I stayed in my pj’s all day Sunday and I don’t think I’ve done that before, ever, unless I’ve been horribly ill. Got dressed up casually yesterday, even with a bit of lippy, all set to take the kids to an indoor play centre while I read a book but it was closed! HJ’s was the next best thing. At least it was indoors.

I think the weather was giving us permission to slow down … well that’s what I’m blaming my mooching on ;) Glad you got some down time too.

Hmm, you are most brave wearing white converse. Mine are grey and still a thousand shades dirtier than your white ones. I am allergic to white. As for an anti-moochy outfit, I bought this brilliant top at the Country Road sale last week that FEELS moochy, but doesn’t look it! Is that not the perfect weekend top? Except I am certainly not saving it for the weekend. I have worn it every day since I bought it last Thursday except one. That was not to wash it, it was just because I may have run into someone who’d seen me wear it the day before. If I could go back and buy it 10 different colours I would. It is that good.

Love this outfit, Nikki! Yesterday was definitely a PJs day watching a whole season of True Blood in various states of horizontal (bed -> couch -> bed) but in the end I put together a ‘mooch’ outfit of SABA jeggings, loose scoop neck tee, Lo Conrad for Kohls chunky draped cardi and black smoking slippers. Comfy and cute…and easy! x

Oh, True Blood started in the US last night! Can’t wait to get back in for the next series. I like your mooching outfit. I may need to do a series of mooching posts and call for photos!

You look cool in your converse sneaks and jeans and that cute orange top.I have orange on today to brighten up this rainy weather!I cannot stay in my PJS unless I am sick.I must be too anal ,I am going to try and be more lazy and just mooch in my pj’s I think………I wore Ponte leggings and jeans but I did have to go out.

My husband is usually unable to mooch but even he managed some quality pj time this weekend too!

  • Julie

I think you look amazing in orange too Nikki! Thanks for advising NYDJ do jeggings too x

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki Parkinson

And they’re jeggings with a zip, Julie … very important!

  • Maxabella

Far out, you look stunning here, Nikki. Those cheap sunnies look expensively amazing and the bright colour is so flattering. I get that you would have to get out and about looking so amazing. No mooching allowed! x

Oh, it was such a lovely moochy weekend … we’re on a three-day week (show holiday Friday) here so difficult to get motivated!

I have a question. Why do converse shoes look great on everyone else, but when I try to wear them they just look….. I don’t know… like two white neon flippers drawing attention to my feet? I DON’T GET IT.

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au/ Nikki Parkinson

Oh, I dish out some flipper action … but it could be why I like mine scruffed up and dirty too.

    • Julie

Perhaps because you are looking down on them but everyone else gets a nicer view! (I have flat, long black boots which remind me of gumboots whenever I look at them on my feet!)

I’m exactly the same. Everyone else looks cute and casual and I look like I’m going to the spend the day on a farm.

    • http://www.boxandbrownie.com/ Hannah

I struggled with this. I think it’s my size 40 clodhoppers – I can’t do super, super pointy heels either.

  • Mummaducka

yep. PJ day like every other day on a weekend, until I went into town at 2 pm. It’s Ok cos my Pjs are black Yoga pants and long sleeve tshirts. I can do anything in my Pjs, I especially like to do all the grotty jobs like cleaning, gardening and the mowing. Yesterday I actually gardened and hoed about 2 tonne of weeds and lit big fires with them! I did have a shower before I took my eldest to the bus in town to take him back to school in Toowoomba and also visit my hospitalised InLaws.

This an almighty effort with the gardening Mummaducka! And I like your cleverness with your pjs!
