The first of the New Generation shows was held this morning at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. Designers who have never showed at fashion week are able to submit their collections for possible inclusion in these shows.
They then share the show limelight with four other designers but doing so can give them a leg up into the fashion industry – either through media coverage or through buyers in the audience seeking out a new label for their boutiques.
The five labels showing this morning could not have been more different from each other – from models wearing nun habits and corseted pleather leggings through to neon sport luxe accents and architectural minimalism.
Here are some images from Queensland label Tovah – note the inclusion of a leather sun visor – something you’d be up for this summer?
Now, coming up with a makeup look that works with such a diverse range of fashion looks could be a bit tricky but not for Maybelline makeup maestro Nigel Stanislaus. His “good girl gone bad” look was all about the strong brow, untamed lashes and nude lip.
Nigel’s hot tip for translating this look to the everyday: create a shadowy eye and then make it stand out by making the lashes a little messy and spikey. On the lips keep it a fresh, nude contrast.
The key products: Maybelline New York Colossal Volum’Express Mascara mascara ($19.25 available now) and Maybelline New York Superstay 14hr lipstick in Beige Forgood ($18.95, out July)
This seems like a makeup look we could easily make work for us, don’t you think? Could you go a spikey lash though? Or do you need to be smooth and curled?

Thanks to Maybelline NY Australia, I’m blogging at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia all week. Come back each day for my take on what we’ll be wearing – on our face and ourselves – next spring-summer.
