How to look bright and shiny when you’re not

Nikki Parkinson Beauty, Fashion, How to 31 Comments

I could count the number of hours sleep I’ve had over the past few days on my two hands but I could not care. I’ve had a ball. A blogging ball.

And my lightning trip to Kuala Lumpur for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards has vindicated my “need” to pack an obsessively excessive amount of beauty products to make it look like I was happy and shiny at any time of the day or night despite being anything but.

I’d hereby like to publicly thank the following products: Sodashi Rejuvenating Face Mist, Yes to Carrots Brightening Facial Towelettes, Garnier BB Cream, IIamasqua Skin Base foundation, Bare Minerals loose minerals foundation, Benefit Cha Cha Tint, Benefit Watt’s Up, Jane Iredale Moon Glow, Jane Iredale Just Kissed lip stain in Forever Pink and Napoleon Perdis Lady in Red lipgloss.

And special mention must go to my hair stylist, Maria Faulder from Suite Three. We came up with a cunning hair plan a few weeks ago and it worked. On the day I flew out, she blow dried and pin curled by hair before putting it in an up do. Yes I looked mighty flash getting on that 1am flight … but it was SO worth it.

An hour before the event I pulled out all the pins, gave my hair a little tousle with my fingers and … voila … gorgeous glam-messy curls. Very black tie event-ready. You should try it some time.

I’ll have more about my time in KL on the blog later today … in the meantime here’s what I wore (and yes, what I packed was spot on).

Out the gate and ready to go. See that Gasparre cashmere/modal wrap? I've never felt more glam on the plane. And as for the Samsonite suitcase ... spotted it from 20 metres away at baggage claim

Would love to take home this mirror from the hotel.

Black-tie ready. Love a dress that can travel and not crush.

I wielded the blow-dry from home into a side braid, which I then tucked and pinned back in the opposite direction

  • You looked fab the whole time! As you always do xx

    • Thanks Christie … hope you’re feeling ok? I crashed this afternoon x

  • PMSL at the lady on the plane. I think she is a very cunning photo bomber.
Can’t wait to see you soon and to hear all your tales.

    • She is indeed. And yes, March will come round very quickly!

  • Thanks so much for being such a wonderful roomie! Had such a blast. Nic xxx

  • Looking gorgeous and fresh, as ever. Congrats on being sponsored to attend, Nikki. x

  • You cannot tell at all that you have had little sleep in so many days! If I have one bad night you can REALLY tell. I need to pop some spoons in the freezer more often.

I am guessing you had an absolute blast?!

    • We so did Miss Pink … the best time. Seems very surreal now.

  • Rachel

You looked amazing Nikki. LOVE that Orange and white striped skirt. Where did you get it?

  • Charmaine

You look great in all the outfits. The look on the passenger’s face behind you is priceless. Glad you had a fab time. Look fwd to your post abt KL, my hometown.

    • I know! And Charmaine, I loved KL … was just too short a visit.

  • Looking stunning and lovely! Laughing at the face in the background when you’re on the plane 🙂

  • I love that they provided a giant mirror for you in your hotel room!! They knew you were comin 😉

  • Omg epic at the final picture photo bomber ^^ glad you had a lovely time. I saw you there but was too shy to approach you.

    • Oh, I wish you had!!! Was so much fun meeting new blogging friends x

  • Gorgeous as always! Am laughing at the person behind you in the final pic – clearly not impressed! 🙂

    • I know … so funny. Think she wished she’d pre-booked a “comfort pack”!

  • Mrs Woog

Rocking it as usual Nikki. Cannot wait for the next post about your trip xx
