The Model and Me: Ever looked at a model wearing an item of clothing that appeals to you and dismissed the purchase out of hand? Yep, me too. Well, I’m here to tell you that you SHOULD get into that change room and give the object of your desire a try. You may not look like the model (I don’t, I’m a size 14), but you never know, it just may look right for you.
As the temperature heats up, I resign myself to months of unattractive perspiration and reach for cool, cotton clothes that I can either throw on over a cozzie or dress up with heels and a few accessories for a cafe meeting.
Sunshine Coast-based label Boom Shankar allows me to do all that AND indulge my inner hippy. Bet you didn’t know I had one, did you?
Hippy chic is definitely one of my multiple wardrobe personalities. I can trace her beginnings back to my step-mum’s arrival to regional Queensland from London in the mid-70s.
Here she was all platforms, cheesecloth kaftans and worry beads … and I was in awe.
Now I call on my hippy chic to inject a bit of casual fun on days spent close to home on the Sunshine Coast.
Here are two of my favourites from the latest Boom Shankar collection, styled on models:
And here they are on me:

Boom Shankar Topsy dress in yellow $59; with Country Road jacket and platform shoes; Sophie Kyron earrings; Uberkate necklace. Note: I'm also wearing a Metalicus white tank dress underneath as this is a very light cotton. For a beach look you wouldn't need the extra layer.
Not only is Boom Shankar designer Dui Cameron incredibly talented, she’s an amazing philanthropist, giving back to the Coast community as well as communities overseas. You can read about the work she does here.
